Question: Can a philosopher be in poverty!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Of course, one can be philosophical while one is in a state of poverty!. Socrates is, of course, the perfect example of a poor philosopher!. That being said, however, as Aristotle noted, philosophy requires luxury!. Meaning like most things philosophy is more easily done if one does not need to worry about the mundune things of life!. A gifted few can be in poverty and still have a rich philosophical inner mental life but most will not!. The saddest thing thing about poverty is that most of time it leads to a poverty of thinking, a poverty of the soul!.
