Question: Do you think circumstances in your life reveal who you are and not make you who you are!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No!. Circumstances we face in our lives do not dictate who we are, but can certainly dictate how we react!. Such as, if you are abused as a child, you may certainly have trust issues or may even abuse others!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The circumstances and what you learn in your life make you what you are!. How you use that education defines who you are!.
One may learn many things in life but still not have the knowledge of how to use that which is known properly!. If used for only personal gain it is useless, but if used to enhance all lives around you, it is put to good use!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

your response to present circumstances reveals who you are!. the present circumstance itself reveals who you were before!. present choices determine future circumstance, and each possible circumstance allows you the possibility of a certain number of responces!. so circumstance has a partial influence in making you who you are, but you have the final say!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both!.

Our lives via our birth was not our doing or idea!.
Our first formative years with people supposedly like us alot is not our idea, but they can have parts of us and we can be or think or do like them although its not a given!.

And we can go our whole lives being like someone, letting them control us OR giving up ourselves, but then in doing that isn't it us or something IN us that makes it!.

Therefore I truly believe that we are all always our selves in any given situation!.

when people say "thats not them" well that is them in that given situation!.

I do believe we can be on a road and most things like insects or ants will just keep trying the same things over and over to get the results they desire and some people are just that way too,

I believe the most successful people are people that are in a situation or on a road that if a road block comes, instead of giving up, turning back, or trying the same thing over and over, they devise a well thought out plan to get through, thus MAKING them who they are!.!.

Either decision makes it know through construction notice who they are!.

Einstein said it so well, "insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results"

Life can bring out who we are, BUT it can also make or change us as well, IF WE are humble enough or care to roll with the waves and live and learn, change and grow and see just what it is we are made of or have the potential to be!.

haha that made me think of a guy that has a new hot rod car that wants to take it on the road to "see what this baby can do" and when he gets it off the road, he supes it up!.!.!.!.!.!.to make it better!.!.

Both!.!.!.

They reveal who we are, and if we are smart and who we are is not who we want to be, allow or persue the changes, preferably through thorough planning and hard work!.

Both!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!.!.!. 100% no!.!.!.

Watch an episode of Nova called "The Ghost In Your Genes" that is about how what your parents, grandparents, and even great great grandparents did and ate in their lives changes the epigenome of their decedents!.!.!.

They also discovered that how you are TREATED alters your Epigenome!.!.!.

Yeah!.!.!.

They took 2 sets of mice and their pups!.!.!. One mother didn't care for her babies and didn't really show them any attention!. The other mother was a normal mouse and showered her babies with attention!.

The scientists took the pups from one and gave them to the other then checked out how they grew up!.

The mice, born by the attentive mother, were physically and chemically altered to be depressive and suffered from more disease and their epigenome was altered while the mice, born by the neglectful mother, became well adjusted because they were raised by the attentive mother!.

Meaning, in case that was confusing, that though your genes do dictate a LOT of your future health and future emotional stability, if you are neglected or abused as a child, it not only MENTALLY hurts you but it actually CHANGES YOUR GENETIC MAKE UP and makes you and YOUR CHILDREN more prone to mental illness, obesity, cancer, diabetes!.!.!.

Yes, how your mother and father treat you as a baby will determine the chances of you getting cancer in your 40's!.!.!.

Your circumstances don't just change your personality, they change your epigenome and that changes both personality AND your risk of disease!.!.!. To be passed on to your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren!.

The research is highly compelling!.!.!.

I think it's a combination of both!. I think the entire persona is molded by both their genes and their environment!. Furthermore, I don't believe there is such thing as "free will"!. I believe that each person is presented with their choices, and what actions they take are dictated by their genetic design and learned experiences!. In effect, there is no choice in any matter!. For each person, the choices they make are woven into the fabric of their being and cannot be circumvented!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, I suppose you raise a fair point!. I never really saw it like that before!. I think it is a little bit of both though!. For example, what if you were raised in a completely different circumstances like a different family!. Would you're personality still be the same!? Or would it be different!? So to some degree I think we condition into our circumstances!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

They do both, Rita!. In most cases, the one more than the other!. The interaction of cause and effect in our lives often difficult to decipher, like the chicken and the egg, but ultimately the ability to change is built into the resources of human nature, I believe!. Hence, we can change patterns for the better (or worse!) Www@QuestionHome@Com

Everything we do makes us who we are today!. I love this quote!.

"People change for two reasons!. They either change because they've seen enough to where they want to, or they've been hurt enough to where they have to!."

So what happens to us, or what we do makes us who we are!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Any circumstances one may have brought about themselves reveal a bit about them, their character, desires, priorities ect!. However, all life experiences have an affect you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

to a point , yes!.

circumstances may help shape who we become, but how we react to them shows who we really are!.

we can use the things that happen to us as an excuse to do the same things, or we can rise above it and say that it stops with me!.

my thoughts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What I am is directly correlated to experiences, circumstances and my ability to discern right from wrong!.

I am who I am as a result of many influences!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Circumstances can reveal who we are, if we allow them, same with them making us who we are!. We have to allow circumstances to do anything to us-reveal or change us!. It's a combination-a POTENTIAL 50,50%!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
