When in Rome, you do like the Romans!. We as americans have a bad habit of policing the world & trying to tell the rest of the world how to live!. That's half of the problem in the middle east!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This one would try to understand why such was being practiced, as well as questioning whether it was being practiced only upon female babies or both sexes, etc!.

This one would explain his beliefs to those who were practicing infanticide, i!.e!., that doing harm to any was not an action that is beneficial to others nor to ones self, that murder is not usually a beneficial act and might be thought of or understood as begin wrong due to the harm it causes!.

If this were a "missionary" he would be teaching the practices and understandings of Buddhism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the method of intervention!.
If the missionary approached the locals, explained to them what they thought, and asked for their opinion to be considered, or negotiated in some other way, then yes, they should intervene!.
If the missionary approached with guns blazing, trying to force their ideals on the locals, then absolutely not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the case of innocent human life or sexual abuse, by all means I would be obligated to stop it!. Yes, this is interrupting their cultural customs but it is ethically correct!. I suppose many would argue that this is Westerners trying to meddle in people's in people's affairs!. But quite frankly, I don't think you want to see pictures of a smashed in baby's skull or a raped little child!. What if it was your child!?!?!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

This was the perpetual dilemma facing French and British anthropologists during colonial times!. Whether to PRESERVE native cultures (the good, bad and ugly) or impose Western (Colonial) norms and MODERNISE them!. Now with the relentless march of globalisation, such issues have become largely redundant!. If you resist global standardisation, you are finished - as a nation, as a people!. Sad but true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
