Question: Is the self a prisoner of the cultural, political, historical hegemony!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No it is not!. Yes we are product of our times but we can choose to liberate ourselves from them!. That is the point of philosophy, at its best, to liberate us from the false gods of the present!. With reason we can see the eternal order of the cosmos and lose the shallowness of today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The 'self' does not exist in a vacuum!.
(When it tries, we call it alienation, and either pity and try to treat it,
or lock it away!.)
The 'self' is always free to make it's own decisions!.
That it must do so in the light of the surrounding conditions is no
more to be considered 'imprisonment' than to consider the need
to take the next breath compulsion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The "self" is always a prisoner of something!. Aside from what you listed, each individual is bound to one thing or another by choices!. If you choose to reject one you then become bound to the other and this extends to all facets of life!. The only one who is not bound to anything is God!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes in some ways it is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
