The question was not "What is the meaning to life"!. The Question is actually unknown, and is referred to as "The ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything"!. In the third book in the series, "Life, the Universe, and Everything", it is explained that the Question and the Answer can never be known in the same universe, it is physically impossible!. Our universe knows the answer (which is 42) so we will never know the Question!. Any attempt to answer it will produce an inane question (What is six times nine!?)!. Or cause the universe to cease to exist!. Either way, that's why Arthur and his friends stopped worrying about it after the third book!.

But if it's any consolidation, they did manage to find God's final message to his creation!. And that message was "We apologize for the inconvenience"Www@QuestionHome@Com
