Question: How do we decide what is right and what is wrong!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Our judgment of what is right and what is wrong is very much affected by the society we live in!. Justice is not innate - it is instilled in us by our environment!.
That's why people tolerated slavery!.
That's why women didn't get the vote until recently!.
That's why gays are (or were) condemned to death by many religions!.
That's why blacks were seen as inferior!.
The list is inexhaustible!.

I like to think I have a strong, incorruptible sense of justice - but no!. We are all very much children of our time, and, being human, we are nearly all corruptible in some way!.
That's the sad thing about sapience!. You're capable of actions so much more horrific than anything that any other species is capable of!.
And then we hate ourselves for it!.
And then we do it all again anyway!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say it all comes down to the decision of the majority!. Depending on what they say and whatever they do to make you agree with the statement normally ends up with it being the right one!.

It also comes down to higher authority, again depending on whatever conclusion they come too depends on what is right and wrong!.

You will find this in most laws and social rules that if a court, council, group wanted it, normally thats how it came about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To decide between right and wrong, I must say, stands at the heart of the hardest of the dilemmas facing human kind!. There are number of moral and ethical issues that require us to know exactly what is right and what is wrong, to come clear with our opinions and views!. We come to grapple with such dilemmas and strive for their resolution, but we often do this in one or the other form of a human collective!.

I therefore believe that it is important for us to be influenced by our society!. This I believe is our duty in turn to constantly study that influence and for views and opinions that are valuable within a wider context of a society and therefore is relevant and mature for the good our personal world!.

This therefore is not all bad that we are all too often overweighed by the opinions and views of a multitude of people around us!. Social influences on us signify the presence of one vital link between us and the world around that we as an individual inhabit and learn to make a living out of our experience!. This is normal that all people belong to some place and to some people!. This is also normal then that all places and their people form, reform and shapes one anther into becoming some specific type of society with it own peculiarities or rites and custom, values and believes, that then those people use to express themselves specifically!.

I would not imagine if any opinion of a person would have any merit if that person were not influenced by the place and the people that he belongs to, or if his sense of values and concerns are not matured up to some standard acquired in a wider context a social living!.

In our personal live we use various devises to tell right form wrong!. First of all, and as I mentioned above, we use our social knowledge and experience to see to that!. We sometimes know right from the start if something is unusual, and can make a decision after a brief reflection if something is right or wrong!.

However, when we are not certain, we like to remain confident, confident with the mindset of our knowledge and experience that we might have earned so far!. We like to remain clam and wait with patience for things to reveal their nature!. We can do this because we find ourselves confident within a society, which in turn gives us higher level of tolerance and patience!.

We decide on what is wrong and right basically because of the following factors:

1!. Our parents' perspective
2!. Based on truth
3!. Based on our own experiences!.
4!. Based on the existence of the ten commandments!.

I think our judgments are somewhat affected by the society we are in!. =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You form opinions of good moral judgement from childhood!. Your family, community and general society shape your decision making tools!. These are the same tools which are carried into adulthood!. There is an inherent desire to 'get on' with people, as the human instinct pushes you to succeed in your environment!.

We use mirror behaviour ie copying facial expressions and posture of another to make a bond with them!. It is believed that this mirror behaviour has also allowed humans to develop empathic skills!.

Therefore, we are equiped to become feel anothers pain or happiness!. If we are aware that our actions are hurting another, our empathy offers a further decision making tool!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Everyone is constantly told what is right and what is wrong, especially in childhood, when person believes almost everything he's said!. Either we follow those instructions or break them and set our own standards, we still depend on what we were told and what we believed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

when it's a close call & I am faced with a moral dilemma I personally use the MOQ ( metaphysics of quality) - it asserts that all value is morality, that quality is a universal absolute and the pattern of that absolute can be mimiced closely!.

In these instances it is the highest evolved pattern that takes precedence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not clouded but cleared!. Speaking generally when something causes pain or harm it is considered wrong!. The opposite is true for right!. Society helps to clear things up when our actions benefit us individually but do harm to us collectively!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We don't!.

Our own moral codes are dictated to by the general rules of society in which we live!.

This in turn dictates what we are empathetic, sympathetic and disposed towards!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As above, common sense!. Always think before you speak!. Always think about your actions before you do anything!. If it feels wrong, it usually is!. If in doubt - Don't do it! Www@QuestionHome@Com
