i have not seen this movie or whatever it is, but my own definition of this quote "I want knowledge not belief" simply means that he wants the truth with solid concrete evidence instead of stories told by great people passed down for generations that gives a sense of security and trust!. The German theologian Rudolph Bultmann said, "Faith that requires proof isn't faith at all!." There is truth that can be known and proven empirically, and there is truth that cannot be proven empirically but is just as true!. You can empirically prove gravity, but you cannot empirically prove a mother's love for her child!. The fact you cannot prove her love make it no less true!.

For many people, proof becomes a crutch!. I think he is talking to the doubts in his own soul!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
