Standing on the side of a cliff, hearing the ocean waves crashing on the rocks below!. The wind is blowing, whipping all around you!. You can't go back!. What brought you to the edge in the first place is coming up behind you, creeping toward you like a darkness wanting to swallow you up!. All the trials in your life are coming at you and you don't see a way out!. You have tried every possible area of help you can think of but the people who want to help you are powerless to do so and the people who can help you wont!.

Looking with your physical eyes, you see nothing but emptiness before you!. Out of desperation, you close your eyes and hear with your heart the soft voice of the Lord saying, "Come my child, I have always been here for you!. I have been waiting for you to seek me!. I have been calling out to you but your physical ears were so clouded with other things that you could not hear my voice!. I will help you!. Come walk into my rest!."

He reaches out his hand and you step off of the edge and into his embrace!. No harm comes to you!. He does a miracle in your life and there is no explanation except to give him all the glory!. The people around you cannot explain and look at you in wonder!.

(Of course, this is a figurative cliff!. In no way am I saying anyone should walk off a literal cliff expecting God to help you float to the bottom!. After all, he created the law of gravity and laws must be followed!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

S?ren Kierkegaard used the term to define an action necessary to circumvent the paradoxical nature of faith!.

An example is found in "Fear & Trembling":

Abraham could not prove he had heard the voice of God, yet he believes, and risked his only son based on this belief!. The paradox of Abraham is that the believer acts and risks much on less than complete knowledge!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
