Question: Do you live by your own knowing or through the experiences and testimony of others!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I constantly live two lives simultaneously!.!.!.!.!.!.!. a life within myself totally internalising and for which I do not need any props from the outside world!. Another life , external to me , in which I interact with the outside world with the help of my sense organs!. For this external life I certainly use my experience and testimony of others!.

Many times this is conflict with my internal life and I am disturbed as to which path I should take !. With 'experience' I know that I have no control over any external factors and the results of all my actions are not in my hand!. Thus , more and more , I am getting within myself !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i find sometimes testimony of others isn't really all that dependable, and other times it is!. i usually try to figure out how whatever the testimony is can make sense!. if i can't do that, then i keep it in mind until i can, i'll ask people and stuff until someone can explain it to me!. if i never find an explanation then i disregard it!.

usually how i go about that is asking, 'why!?' or 'how do you know!?'!. if the person can't answer those questions, then someone else either has the answer, or in my opinion, it's not to be trusted!.

testimony from others can often be the most useful because they allow you learn from someone else's mistakes rather than your own!.

but still, you can't trust everything you hear, no matter how many people think that way!.

Personally, I live by my own experiences or my own "knowledge"!. I may hear the testimony of others & put some credence to it based on my own observations of them but I do not live by anything other than what I test or explore myself!.

I had a Grade 11 Chemistry teacher convince me there was a vast chemical difference between "aluminum" & "aluminium" until many years later I discovered he was playing upon my gullibility!. There is only the difference in pronunciation!. No more!. It was my own lack of ability or initiative to research!. I took someone else's word for granted!. Someone who I was supposed to respect & learn from without question!. Shame on him!? Or shame on me!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's some of both for me, but as I get older, I notice I pay increasingly less attention to the experiences, etc!., of others, unless they're something new or phrased in a new and/or interesting way!.

It also depends upon how much I RESPECT (not like) the person's take on the world!. For instance, I love my mother, but she's totally illogical and ill-informed about current events and her world view was formed around 1940 and hasn't changed much since then!.

In contrast, though I don't LOVE, say, Kurt Vonnegut or Hunter S!. Thompson, I respect their informed views (whether I agree with them or not) and try to emulate their way of gathering knowledge and altering perspectives based on information, rather than blind adherence to tradition, illogical conclusions based on no research and/or silly folk "wisdom" (my mom)!.

Unlike many people my age, I DO try to keep an open mind and though I live by my own principles, am always eager to hear what intelligent members of younger generations think!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I live by both philosophies (that's what I call it)!. It is important to never forget where you came from considering, where you are now, how you are living your life (due to those path's that you've encountered in the past) and who are the people who you are sharing with these past experiences, will ultimately guide you to your new paths in your future!. Now I live by my own knowing because I finally believe I have many purposes in this life or believe in myself, but my spirit hears certain testimonies from others who have Divine wisdom!. Sometimes these testimonies come out of the "mouths of babes", the older generation and those who have overcome being jaded by life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Almost completely of of my own knowing!.But if someone who has been caught on fire before tells me that it hurts!.I most likely would believe them!.Although i haven't been caught on fire my common sense tells me it most likely would hurt!.In assessing the testimony's of others you should approach with logic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Exclusively by my own experience!. Often doing the opposite of what was advised and generally believing that the majority has wrong regarding most of the things!. It gave me allot of unique experiences, and allot of pain and grief!. I don`t regret it though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

One only grows through experience!.

It's like going to university and attempting to get a career!.

Reading a book on how to manage dogs for example and actually managing a dog through experience is two different things!.

I guess a little bit of both!. But experience is the best teacher!. So it's best to go through experiences on your own to know that you've been there and for that you end up even wiser
