Let me attempt to sway the atheist to believe in God:
Look at the banana - Gods perfectly created food:
-comes in a protective cover
-perfectly shaped for eating
-tastes great
-full of vitamins
-has an indicator to tell you whether it is ready to eat (skin changes color)
If that isn't proof in God, then nothing is!.

Many top scientists marry their work with a religious faith (particularly physicists)!. There is a misconception that science and religion are incompatible, or "at war"!. The people at war are the unintelligent masses who use science/religion as an excuse to continue their bickering: behind closed doors both theologians, philosophers, spiritualists, and scientists get along more than amicably, joined together by their dedication to rigorous intellectual activity!.

Anyone who thinks they can -prove- the existence or non-existence of "God" (however you wish to define that word) or says they -know- the answer if only to themselves, is committing a basic logical flaw!. You may have plenty of personal evidence which convinces you to believe one way or another: but you have -no right- to say you -know-, nor no right to tell anyone else that they are -wrong-!. Doing so only creates problems in the long-run, which ultimately will conflict with most ethical codes (religious or otherwise) which people live by or even pragmatic concerns!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd argue that an atheist would probably be good at philosophy!.

Science will never prove or disprove the existence of any gods!.

However, science is important when trying to explain the concept of evolution to a young-earth creationist, but one does not have to be an atheist to accept evolution (and vice versa)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Einstein was a believer!. I have met many idiots that are atheists!. I also have worked with many bright people who were atheists!. There are Christian Existentialists as well as Existentialist atheists who explore concepts of the absurd!. Many non-scientific writers are atheists!. It appears atheism is more connected to feelings of helplessness and despair as explored by believers and non-believers!. Feelings of "absurd" and "helplessness" ofter accompany atheistic writings!.

Nurture more than proficiency in science provides more of a connection!. Learned helplessness and lack of ability to function are better ideas to explore!. I have listed many books I was forced to read and understand in order to earn a degree in philosophy forty years ago!. I have pondered yout question in my teens but it became more apparent as I grew older "science" and "atheism" are not contradictory ideas!. The last book I will list below gives the reader a good "feeling" about the mutuality of science and religion!. It is morbid but easy and fun to read!. All of he books mentioned below can be found in most libraries and bookstore!.

Imagine a hypothetical island that has had no contact with the outside world and on that island there is a society that has no religion!. They don't believe in gods, but that is nothing to do with them being logical thinkers, or into science!. It is their environment!.

Your religion is a result of the environment that you are brought up in!. Your belief in your god is taught to you!. You accept it to be true, because those around you tell you that it is true and if you don't believe it, then bad things will happen to you!.

It is very difficult for people in such a repressed environment to break out and become free thinking!. Indeed they do actually believe that they are there through choice!.

Not all scientists are atheists!. Read the acceptance speech of Max Planck when he won the Nobel Prize in physics - he clearly acknowledges his belief in an intelligent source of all life and energy!.

People, dedicated to science, have no time to think on theism or atheism!. Science is for both theist & atheist to study & to carry on researches!.
