So 30 minus 3 = 27 then minus 2 for the bellhop = 25!. problem solved!. or the room is 25!. each man was overcharged so returning 3 dollars = 28 + 2 to the bellhop = 30 Just a trick of math when you combine certain operations in the wrong way!. Edit -- You are putting things in the wrong order is the only reason the question seems tricky!. Each man paid 10 so 10+10+10 =30, manager returns 5 = 25 now it's a question of how the five is broken up!. 5 -2 to the bellhop -3 to the men = 0 In math I am sure you remember there was always an order of operations to all math questions!. 2+ 2 *5 = 12 but (2+2)*5 =20 because the order of operations is performed differently!.
