?It depends on who you read!. And you have your own experience of it for yourself!. This personal experience may in fact be more significant than any of the Research done to date!. Your experience of, what it is like to be you, is unique and many aspects of this phenomena is arguable by the brightest minds!. There does however seem to be two separate camps on the local vs!. non-local nature of mind!.

One writer, thinker, student, professor, PH!.D, David Chalmers has what I would call the most objective review of all positions!. In the end he argues the strength and weaknesses of about 6 different possibilities!. He is not an easy read and he has a web site!.

For me, as a human, this was the one question that I required an answer for before I could proceed!. For all of our deepest questions about life, purpose, origin, and place in the universe seemed to me to hinge on this one question!. Further, is our consciousness unique in the universe or not!. I settled the matter for myself after about 4 or 5 years of study and reading!. There are many intelligent minds making arguments for their position!. For me I have found my peace within the argument as a believer in non-local and local mind combination!.

I believe that a great deal of our lives are run on a local basis however, I further believe that we, physically, are connected in some way to a non-local mind as well!. This non-local mind may have its connections with us on a cellular level and not a neurological connection except on a cellular level within the brain and all other organs within the body!. I point to Bruce Lipton's book "The biology of belief" as an elegant and simple explanation of that connection!. It seems that we receive the "self" from an external source!.

David Chalmers type "F" is where I believe that we will ultimately learn that is the right direction for a universal theory of consciousness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Consciousness is mental awareness!. We have five levels of consciousness!.

(1) Unconsciousness - when we are deep asleep!. also a person can become unconscious after an accident!. When brain is not functioning!.
(2) Semi-consciousness - it is a dream stage!. This is in-between normal consciousness and deep sleep!.
(3) Sub-consciousness - It is the store-house of all our past knowledge and experiences!.
(4) Normal consciousness - When we are all awake and understand the pain and pleasure!.
(5) Super-consciousness - Extra-ordinary consciousness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
