Question: Do you think society tends to ignore handicapped people!?
Thanks a lot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, most definitely! And it is such a shame! Because a lot of these people are so gifted and have so much to share!. They are so pure of heart!. They should make the rest of us ashamed!
We take so much for granted! We spend a fortune on senseless reconstructive surgery, hair nails massages, etc etc etc!.!.!.
If we put as much effort on the inside as we do on the outside, we would all, just maybe, resemble those who are special in God's eyes and handicapped in ours!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a sad reality!. Even though there are State Laws that protect disabled people, Society in general tends to ignore them!. There are though, some bright examples of people, organizations etc!. that take good care of these people and show them that they really have equal rights and they deserve the respect , appreciation and care of all of us!. People should be empathetic, loving, caring to handicapped people!. We all are the same Creator's children!. We all are equal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In today`s world every family has some problem or the other!. Health , shortage of resources, educational needs!.!.!. something or the other !. Each family feels aggrieved on some issues!. They feel the society at large does not seem to bother about them and that they have to fend for themselves!. !.
In such a state of mind of the people and the society certainly handicapped people are at a great disadvantage!. They have to fend for themselves and they cannot!. Thus they are herded in small groups of Blind, Deaf, Mentally retarded, physically handicapped etc and some sections of the society takes care of these marginalised people!. Some among us have empathy and many have just some sympathy for these people!. That is all!.

To this list of handicapped should also be added "the elderly!. The individuals( sons and daughters) find the parents as liabilities just like the handicapped and marginalise them!. They are also 'herded' in small groups and admitted in Old people`e home to fend for themselves and wither off!.

Yes!. Society ignores the handicapped including the elderly parents and grandparents!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no, I see plenty of handicapped people in public, with their adaptive equipment- (which would not exist,as well as special schools, wheelchair access) if society truly ignored the handicapped!.

I think society ignores hermaphrodites to the point of exclusion-most bathrooms are male/female-not both,in school gender is a big deal, boys and girls are segregated in p!.e!. and other activities, most forms one must fill out for jobs, identification, taxes, social security, etc require one to choose male or female!. society truly has no place for these disabled people-they are invisibleWww@QuestionHome@Com

Just a kind reminder, the proper term is "People with disabilities!." You should always put the person before the disability!. In that way, you focus on their abilities!.

Really, I think that the phrase you chose, "handicapped people," answers your question!. To call someone handicapped implies that they are inferior!. Society has traditionally ignored "inferior people!."

Not in every society!. Different society view handicapped people differently!. Some people pity for them, some people say they punished by God and some assume them as low class people and hate them!. When these handicapped people possess some extra talents that others do not have, then the society respect them and feel proud to have them in their society!. The five fingers are not same!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not in Dubai! There are more facilities for them then there are handicapped!. I'm not against providing the facilities, I'm just explaining that having all these facilities are aimed at making them less "ignored" becuase it allows them to participate in life like everyon else!.

@hmmm: you're right, they probably don't like to be signalled out, but we have to have a little bit of understanding too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It all depends on the society!. There are different societies in every city around the world!. Some more accepting, or observant than others!. I can only speak for my society, but even I don't know enough of them t know for sure!.

I would say, like most minorities, they are overlooked when not seen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's getting better but I still think there's a along way to go!. I think disabled people are still seen as charity cases when most of them just want equal opportunities!. The Disability Discrimination Act is watered down so there are loopholes in it!. I don't like the word handicapped either I find it offensive and dated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Society consists of individual people!. Handicap may come in any family!. No family will ignore the child with handicap!. So I do not think society tends to ignore handicapped people!.

I have seen many handicapped people doing wonderful feat than what many well built people are not doing!.

to the parents!.He is already taken as bad-luck guy,God's curse etc!.
