Question: I have noticed, why do more women than men believe everything happens for a reason!?
I am stumped!. I have checked Y!A, any question talking about this, almost all women believe it so!. While less men do!. Is there a reason behind this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Aristotle certainly didn't believe so!. While your findings are genuine, it is not the rule - nor is it the exception!.

In my experience women are more into free will and spontaneity and emotional reasoning (not a bad thing, in case I am misunderstood) - men are more pessimistic, deterministic and harshly logical!. Dry logic often seeks reasons!.

Of course the above is not a rule either!. While it may be the case that you have found more women than men believing in reasons, I have found them to be pretty much equal in this regard!.

I do not think that the upbringing of men and women have much to do with it!. Looking for a reason is pretty basic human nature!. What does affect it is the upbringing of that particular individual!. If that individual grows up in a sceptical environment, then that may affect their reasoning!.

The word "why!?" is derived from human nature!. But why do some men in your experience deny the existence of reason!?
Well, some just want to go against the trend (goes the same for women, actually - it is not gender-related) and also more men are familiar with quantum physics, chaos theory and probability of particles than women (at least on Y Answers) and they use such theories against the existence of a reason!. Some men are also more sceptical than women because of their dry logic, cold pessimism and mechanical determinism!. Of course, this is not a black-and-white picture with no greys, but the differences between the two genders are the reason for what you are referring to!.

However, all in all, I think everyone believes in reasons, unless they think that this idea is too superfluos and they become sceptical about everything and their pessimism conclude for them - either that, or just some quantum chaotic wannabes!.!.!.lol!.

****** And here's a star for mine :) Voltaire was right - a world full of disagreeing people could only survive if they were philosophers (but then again, I'm flattering myself)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most likely possibilities

1!. sampling error!.

The people who are likely to answer your question self-select - that is, the women who do believe, are more likely to post an answer; and/or the men who don't believe, are more likely!.

2!. The belief isn't literal, and the kind of thinking behind the belief is more common to female egos than male egos!. That is, the women may not literally believe in events being intended by some will - it may be metaphorical, meaning that the results of every event will contain some positives and therefore every event may as well have "happened for a reason!." And maybe, men tend to think more literally and directly about will and intention ("for a reason"-ness), and women more flexibly!. This is just a guess!. But I think it is less simplistic than the guess of the psychologist above!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Women and men are raised differently in our society!. Men are taught to rely on themselves, and women are taught to rely on others!. So, since women become more dependent on external influences, this means they are more likely to trust in an external source, even if it's fate, destiny, a universal power!. So everything happens for a reason!. Men who are taught in our society to use their own strengths don't have this advantage of learning to appreciate and collaborate with others to the same degree, but also don't fall into the trap of feeling like everything is left up to something else!. They believe in their own power and free will, but also don't tend to trust in others as much!. There are goods and bads to both sides, but that's pretty much how it all falls out as I see it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd like to say that as a man, I am someone who believes everything DOES happen for a reason!. I do know that most men don't share this mindset, but I believe strongly in the following quote:

" I believe that everything happens for a reason!. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together!. "

Women are more accepting of destiny!. Men on the other hand are less magnanimous about making a life in less than dominant and happy circumstances!.

The answer fall under the differences between the sexes category!.

In this day and age, there are 2 different attitudes from women regarding acceptance of their "place"

1!. The traditional accepting, lets not rock the boat type
2!. I will fight you tooth and nail and take you to court type!.

In the past, women did not have education!.
Education is the great equalizer!.!. That and having more money than their mothers and grandmothers!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

G In most societies, women have less power than men!. Even in the US, women over forty grew up in a society where they had less power than men!. Someone who has less power feels that there are reasons beyond their control!.

What is important is for each individual to decide to control their own power!. They can only do that with a philosophy that affirms their fundamental rights and dignity and their ability to fully manifest them!.

I agree that Pauline learned her psychology well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pauline's answer is a very accurate one!. I too have found similar patterns in comparing men and women's outlook on life and happenings!. Women do tend to be more on the "hope side" than men (who are more inclined to be on the proactive aggressive side to "get things done")!. Besides that, men are wired to be more based on confidence emphasis!.!.!.!.!.!.because not many women like a guy who lacks confidence!. And often, confident women spell nervousness to most guys due to the fact that the male ego often does not want a showdown with an overconfident female!.!.!.!.overconfident females are feared because most males feel these women will most likely up and leave because they might not need a man to help them out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Men see things straightforward!.
Women analyze everything, which drives me crazy!.

For example, if a man gets hungry, he thinks he should find something to eat!.
If a woman gets hungry, she thinks her hunger occurred for a REASON, which leads her to believe that it could be a sign of the necessity of losing weight!.

Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've thought about that question before!. I assume it's because women are taught to "think before they step" much more heavily than men!. I'm not saying that men don't ever do so, but females pay much more consequences for living "freely" than men do!. For that reason, they might be more likely to have a philosophical mind!. I think that when everything in life has gone a certain way and ends up in a good place at that time the person will say and believe that everything happens for a reason!. I say it because if everything in my life good and bad hadn't happened I wouldn't be in the great place I'm in right now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

men hate the idea of not being in control!. They would much rather believe that they control their own destiny!. Females are more open to the idea!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
