Question: What is the outlook you must have to be a reporter!?

Generally you need to be politically liberal but in such way that you think you're not baised!. This rule would apply except if you're trying to get a job with the Wall Street Journal or Fox News, in which case just change the advice to: you need to be poltically right but in such way that you think you're not baised!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, you do need an unbiased look at things, but in order to find the best stories and be able to present it the best way, you have to have a biased outlook to start with!. How do you know what's unbiased if you don't know at least one side of the story!. Know one side, then if you're smart enough, you can figure out the other!. A reporter can have a completely biased outlook on it, but a good reporter doesn't let it creep into the report unless it's the type of report that doesn't matter either way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to be genuinely curious about people (what makes them tick!?) and curious about cause & effect relationships at the heart of events!.

It's totally unrealistic to expect (or to aspire to) some perfect state of objectivity that is totally unbiased !.!.!. But if you have a driving sense of curiousity & inquisitiveness, then you'll want to find the answers to the "WHY" of who/what/where/why -- no matter what your personal opinion is!.

You also need to really, passionately care about getting things RIGHT!.!.!. and that ranges from how someone spells their name to critical, core facts!.!.!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
