Question: Why after the fall of communism, almost 20 years ago now, do people still believe in it's ideals!?
I think it has a lot to do with people wanting to judge the present by an ideal standard!. Now this ideal standard never worked anywhere but they get to feel superior and moral by using it as a weapon against current society!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Because Communism is group interest without self interest!. It's the unconditional love of a mother!. It's the cozy family where energy follows from the ability of the parents to the need of the child!.

Communism is Disney, when the world is Darwin!.

It's the pretense that Yin can endure with out Yang!.

It's the belief that Nature will somehow stop being a competition if we all sing Kum by ya!.

It's ignoring that group interest COMES from self interest!. It's pretending we are SO noble we can actually ask what we can do for our country WITHOUT asking what our country can do for us!.

Communism is the myth that unconditional love is the answer!.

It is the pretense that the beauty of Life can some how be separated from the horror of Death!.

Communism endures because the warm and cozy would rather watch Lion King than Animal Kingdom!. It's a pleasant fantasy preferred to a pragmatic reality!.

It's Disney before Darwin, style before substance!.

It endures because it's a 'feel good' belief for the prosperous, & a haven for the needy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it were truly an ideal standard, you could use it to judge!. But the flaws were illuminated in Animal Farm and the 80 year experiment!. The ideal of a grass roots, bottom up government is still valid!. But when the people won't take responsibility for their education and civic duty to run the government, the power elite is more than happy to take over it for them!.

The republics of the world with democratic principles aren't doing much better, but have a better opportunity to release the power from the elite!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that the reason for this is that they have forgotten about the bad things and remember just those good ones!. Like with people, there might be some problems and rows but after some time you forget about them!.

It has been 19 yrs since the fall of Communism here and it really seems to me that some people would like it to return!.

And yes, I think that they see only the positives and want them now!. However, I cannot understand it well!. I did not live at that era!. But for me democracy is pretty valuable!. And I would not change it for lower prices or the fact that I have to work and if not I would go to jail!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

people can have any belief!. Besides, who is to say that liberal democracy is an inherent good in itself!? It's still a human devised system, and thus is not perfect!. We also don't know the nature of future variables!. For all we know, someone might devise a better system than liberal democracy!. It's like someone in the middle ages saying that the divine right of kings is a valid system, yet today we would dismiss such a standpoint!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of these people don't know how else to live!. They have lived this way for so long, this is all they know!.
This is why we have stayed in Iraq so long!. It takes a long time to instill a new way of life for people who have lived their own way for thousands of years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some people think that communism is a sound concept, but easily corrupt!. As with many other things, the power behind it can be benign, but if it's corrupt (as communism so easily is) the result can be just like is was!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The altruistic community oriented ideals of communism do work on a small scale among like-minded people who were not forced into their situation!.
It does not work nearly so well among people who are coerced into "believing" in its premises!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's akin to asking, why after 2000 years after the death of the only true Christian, there are still people believing in his ideals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just like democracy, it's never fully bin implemented!. People believe in things for what they think is good reason!.
Or perhaps that's all they have ever been taught!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
