It is all in the mind of the one who perceives, that much can already be deduced from the various answers that have been proposed so far!.

If you are alive now and some event causes you to land into serious trouble which puts your life in danger and someone saves you from this situation, did you then manage "not to lose" your life or did you just carry on living!? Can you now say this someone saved your life even though you were alive all the time!? Or could you say you "won" your life back!?

Life is like a diamond: there are as many points of view as there are individuals!. If you look at a diamond from a slightly different angle every time, you will get a complete new picture, totally different from the first!.
Yet it is the same unaltered diamond!.

From an economic approach, one could state that if your capital maintains its buying power over a certain period of time, let us take 12 months, you manage "not to lose" value!. On the other hand, if you manage to make more than what is lost due to inflation, you make a true gain, in which case you could state that you have managed "to win" money!.

It would seem then that the expression "not to lose" refers to something one already has in possession or ownership and "to win" refers to something not previously owned!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is no "not to lose"!.

There is "never tried", but this is a form of losing!.

There is "half a-s-sed it", but his too is a form of losing!.

Anything that can not be considered a victory, must be a defeat!. If you lose a contest, but leave with the determination to return and win, you've won a victory!.

But anything that isn't a step forward is automatically a step back!.

Victory or Defeat!. There is no middle ground!. Those who claim so, are frauds!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There can be many different ways of explaning this!.
One that is encountered by many people is the experience we have in a gambling place like Las Vegas!. We take with us some money ( say$100) !. Our desire is to win a lot of money !. Sky is the limit to our greed!. At the same time we draw a line within ourselves "I will bet upto $ 50 hoping that I will will win !. But when I lose $ 50 I decide not to lose anything more !. I call off my gambling !. This is one type where winning or losing is IN YOUR HANDS and luck!.
The other thing is that to win or not to win there has to be one or more people to compete with!. I can put my best efforts to win but I cannot say that decide 'not to lose' !. It is not in my control!.

So, circumstances decide these issues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"not to lose" means that you're willing to do anything and everything just to win!.

"to win" is to be yourself!. meaning, you have to give your best shot and if your best shot wasn't good enough, you accept defeat with open arms and try again next time!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

well if a new one and no nothing or you are in such condition then you even can't expect win then you can say "I got nothing to loose and evrtying to win"Www@QuestionHome@Com
