As far as I understand your question you need an answer in general sense, right!. So here is it!.

Motto of Life should be: “Live & let others live!. Do good to others if you can!. Prosper in life without harming environment”!. I personally think if one takes this seriously one would definitely know the Motto of life!!!!.

The motto of life need not be the same to everyone!. It may vary and be different to each one according to his/her nature!.

There is a story in Hindu wisdom:

The three sects of creation, namely Devas [semi-gods], humans and the cruel natured Asuras [evil natured] went to the Creator Brahma and sought his counseling, as to what must be their principal motto or duty!.

Brahma answered them with a single letter "Dha" [pronounced as in dharma]!.

The semi gods sought to further clarify their understanding on the teaching, whether "dhamam" [restraining] is the correct understanding!.
The Creator replied "Yes'!.
Since the Devas, abuse the divine gifts, the gift of the rigid penance, their utmost need was "restrainment"!. It became the motto of their life!.

The humans sought clarifications on the teaching, whether their understanding as "dharma" [charity/philonthropy] is correct!. The Creator, again replied "Yes"!.
Because, the humans always live in selfishness and self-centered, the need for charity /philonthropy was at the top!.
Dharma, or Charity became the motto for the humans!.

The Asuras sought clarification on the teaching, whether their understanding as "Dhayai [compassion] was correct!.
The Creator, again replied "Yes"
"Compassion" became the motto of the evil natured Asuras!.

I remember having read an article/reproduction of a talk with the disciples, The Mother of Sri Aurobindo Asharam, saying thus"

"It is quite simple!. You have to become diametrically opposite to what you are now!."

The moto of life may be different for different people in particular!. However, in general the moto of life should be to live a life which should give happiness and rest to soul of self and others!. The act to achieve this goal may be performed according to duties assigned to us by god!.
