Question: Do you believe in multi-dimensional universe!?
We do have access to a 3-D universe (or 4D if you consider Time as another dimension)!. Do you believe that there are subtler dimensions that are out of the reach of our senses!? Do you believe that the subtle dimensions might have subtle life forms, maybe "higher" than ours!?

A dimension is a way of measuring things, and in which things might change!. The three spatial dimensions might be thought of as a coordinate system by which you can define the location of any object in space, and through which objects can move!.

In that sense, time is a sort of dimension, in that for a specific spatial coordinate, there may be different things there depending on point in time you choose!. Time is NOT, however, like space in the sense that you can easily move back and forth, but it is a way of measuring things nonetheless!. (Some theories do suggest that antimatter travels backward in time and that even stranger things go on, but that involves a MUCH more protracted discussion!)

There are many OTHER things that could easily be thought of as dimensions too!. Mass, for example, is a property that is not dependant on location or time!. And it can be changed, though the process is energetically quite expensive!. Electric charge could be considered a dimension as well, even though its expression seems to be heavily quantized at the low end!. Still, this latter qualification may not exclude it, as there is some research which suggests that space is not completely continuous either and may be quantized at a small enough scale!.

Some theories sometimes forwarded by physicists postulate dozens of dimensions, the exact number varying depending on exactly which theory you favor!. Even proponents of such ideas are hard pressed to name them all (most don't even try)!. And that's even when obscure quantum-mechanical qualities such as 'flavor' and 'spin' are counted in!. Still, you never know!.!.!.

For a longer discussion on the topic of assigning actual physical concepts to each of many dimensions, I recommend the book "Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would only believe in such a thing if it were scientifically proven!. The good news is that scientists are working on it!. It's becoming less and less of a philosophical question, and more of a scientific question as scientists work out the details of String Theory!. I'm not enough of an expert to explain it here in a simple way, but if String Theory is correct, then our 3D/4D universe is more likely an 11D universe!. Down-to-earth explanations aren't easy to come by, but a good place to start would be the PBS websight were you can watch the 3-hour Nova special on it, The Elegant Universe!.

Hope that helps!

I'm afraid that the answer, particularly in Y!A must stand up to the test of science instead of simple "belief" !. !. !. isn't that what all the pseudo R&S and R&Squestions posted in Philosophy says!?

Unlike the theists though I would like to actually hear the argument for the case here!. Is there one!?

This is a very appropriate question for philosophy !. !. !. !. good job! I hope the nutbar's don't bother to read this question!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

why just the other day, i looked in the mirror and there was someone there!.
"Hi" he said, " I am from another dimension"
so i broke the mirror!.
because no, i don't beilieve in a multi dimensional universe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The simple answer, for Philosophy, is that it must be considered, but science shows that string theory is Philosophy and therefore not science!. If we cannot measure it, it cannot become a theory!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I completely believe this!. I've experienced many unexplainable and paranormal things and this multi-universe theory is my way of explaining it and making sense of it in my head!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. I personally think that it is true that we live in a multi dimensional universe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
