Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Mainstream is measured by whatever is considered the "norm" in the context of society!. Technically, going to a public school could be classified as mainstream, because there's more people in public schools as opposed to private, or homeschooled!. There's lots of negative connotations associated with being mainstream, though there are some exceptions; in regards to attending public schools, I don't think it can be used in a negative sense; some people simply can't afford private education so they have to do the best with what they've got!. Mainstream's like a safety net, as long as you're a sheep following the herd, you're safe!. You fit in!. This however abolishes the notions of free will, individuality & originality - in other words, it's excrutiatingly boring!. In more extreme cases, it can disable ones ability to think for themselves & form their own ideas & opinions, It could also lead to allowing more influential/authorative figures having power over their actions, resulting in them doing/or taking part in something that isn't right (even if they're aware of this)!. Lastly, being mainstream can inhibit the ability to be openminded, or accept and tolerate differences!. Quite honestly, yes, I do feel pressure to be mainstream - mainly, because I'm not!. Being quite unconventional reaps certain not-so-postive reactions from others, so they're a constant reminder!. It's also pretty isolating not being "typical", though being a person who prefers solitude anyway, it does me fine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I do not feel pressure to be mainstream!. Mainstream is so skewed that it scares me to think of it!. Yes indeed I do try to avoid being mainstream, and am doing a bang-up job of it!. those folks are nuts!
