I believe the phrase was written when a penny was actually worth finding!. Perhaps a newer version like find a Franklin pick it up, blah blah blah!.!.!. it might make more sense!. If I found a hundrd dollar bill I think I would consider it a pretty lucky day!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Where I come from, they're only lucky if you find them!.Then they have to be face up!. After that, you have to put the penny in your shoe all day!. I shudder to think what might happen if you left out any of these steps! LOL!

A penny is a beginning and a reminder!. It begins the money chain and it is a reminder that the sum of many quickly amounts to larger members of the money chain!. Thus a penny is also the beginning of wealth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

From my understanding, it's more finding a penny that is lucky!.

It could also come from old beliefs that if you put a coin in your shoes or in the foundation of your home then you will have more prosperity/money!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
