Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I have a different take on it!. What do you call it when your military decimates another nation's defenses, occupies their capitol, and deposes their government!? I'd say that is called "winning a war"!. And that's what happened 6 and 7 years ago in Iraq and Afghanistan!. So what's been going on ever since!? The right term is "occupation!." Now, our U!.S!. military is fabulous about winning wars if given a properly defined mission!. They are not trained or equipped to administer an occupation, though they might perform certain essential functions!. If our civilian leaders had understood how to pursue a successful occupation (or if the commander in chief had even known how to pronounce it) then maybe we'd have accomplished our goals and enjoyed the fruits of our sacrifice!. Unfortunately, we blew it!. And people can continue to say "it's inviting defeat" or "we must stay 'til the job is done" but in reality, we are now too late!. Al Qaeda, for those who don't know, is safe in the Pakistani-Afghani border, and they're still able to slaughter those tribal chiefs who've led the "Sunni Awakening" and to take out swathes of Iraqi Police recruits with suicide bombers!. Decimated!? I don't see it!. If we really want to win the culture war, then we must find an orderly way to end the military war!. Otherwise we'll continue to enrage Iraqis and Afghanis by acting as conquerors and by our occasional accidental (or reckless) killing of civilians!. I was against the war from the beginning!. It seems and seemed to me at the time that the USA attacked a sovereign nation without provocation!.
