Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Matter of perception!. As technology advances (and that's a relative term), the ability to be aware of more diseases and test for their presence increases!.

Of course, as soon as humans dicker with the natural balance, then there are unintended and often disease causing consequences!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, indeed I too have often wondered about it!. It almost looks like as though Nature would never let our medical science and technology to totally overcome diseases!.

It may well be the doing of the process of evolution which is all the time balancing out everything!.

There is also another parallel issue of our advancements enabling us to know more and discover diseases which were not identified earlier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Globalization and population growth!. The chances of a new plague developing in one small isolated chances are remote, but when you have a world full of 6 billion microbe incubators real ones are bound to pop up!. Once one developes it spread around the world and threatens everyone instead of an isolated area as it would have a thousand years ago!.

But you are kinda right with the technology thing!. When you go to the doctor with a sore throat and he is not absolutely sure what you have he just gives you an antibiotic!. If you don't have a bacterial infection than it won't hurt you!. However, if you take it with out needing it you add to the problem of over use of antibiotic!. This and not taking all of your medicine makes whatever bacteria survives in you body stronger!. Its natural selection!. The medicine kills the weak bacteria first leaving the strongest alive!. Modern medicine fears this a lot!. All it will take is one bug to be resistant to every medicine we have and we will be back in the stone ages!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
