because human nature is naturally egocentric simply because it is easier to be that way!.

admit it, our first reaction to every situation is ourself and ourself only!. we get too wrapped up in ourself to think about others and when we do, it is often too late!.

so a great majority of the world, if not all, are assholes

nobody wants to take the high road to be selfless!. they would rather be selfish because the person who feels all the pain and happiness is only the person himself!. that person does not feel everyone else's pain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because it is the easy route and most people are lazy and in for the quick result!. It is easy to make somebody miserable and you can pretend you are poweful!. Real power is to alleviate the pain in a person's life, making them think they are happy; but it is difficult and doesn't always work!. It only seems so because they never do what you wish they would!. when faced with this predicament, you have two options -- you can become one yourself (the more common and easier choice); you can mold them to your perspective and your ends by providing them a way to have something they want so that you can have what you really want, because they will never change of their own volition!.
