Question: Where does it say premarital sex is SIN!?
I never did understand why growing up it was always said having premarital sex was a "sin," and that you would go to hell!. I was raised Catholic; however, have not been a practicing Catholic since I was around 14, but more of an agnostic!. I do not recall "Thou shalt not have premarital sex" in the Ten Commandments!. Please share your thoughts or enlighten me!.

Anyway, I believe EVERYONE makes mistakes in life!. We all have sinned in one way or another!. We're not all going to hell!. If that were the case it doesn't make much sense that we are still here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Actually the Judeo-Christian preferred penalty for consensual premarital sex was a trip to the altar, not hell!.

The typical 'punishment' for premarital sex was marriage!.

As per Exodus 22:16 or Deuteronomy 23:28

In other words, to make damn sure the sex was pre-MARITAL and not just whoring!.

Adultery got you stoned; pre-marital sex got you a shotgun wedding!.

Christian morality just has zero tolerance for the knock em up & leave mentality!.

Now I don't believe in hell, or a God that judges!. But I don't really disagree with the Christians on this one!.

Because quite frankly I'm fed up with people who don't take financial responsibility for their own children!.

Which is what sexual morality is about!. Don't breed 'em if you can't feed 'em!. If you are NOT financially or emotionally ready for the consequences of sex, you shouldn't be having it!.

Do not ask your parents, grandparents or the Government to raise your kids!. This is your job!.

This said, I am a Libertarian!. So I don't want the Government in our bedrooms!. If you're horny and feel like blowing off your religious upbringing for some fun time in the sheets, knock yourself out!. Just don't knock yourself up!. And don't as ME to pay for YOUR dumb choices!.

Don't waste time justifying your sexual choices by misrepresenting Christian Theology!.

Christianity teaches:
Hell happens AFTER you die, not the moment you sin!.
Everybody has sinned & deserves hell but!.!.!.
If you repent your sins you are forgiven through the sacrifice of Christ!.

And it teaches, if you take the time to look it up, that any kind of extra-marital sex is a sin!.

Anyway, good luck!.
Do the right thing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

People who do it knowing it's wrong know they are sinning!. This is actually a better question for the religion section!.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery!.(That's in the Ten Commandments)!.

Adultery(also referred to as fornication) back then covered a lot more than being married having an affair!.

People are given the chance to repent, but it they refuse, refuse, refuse, then when they go stand before God!.!.!.

You'll also find, if you read the Bible, that no sin is better or worse than any other sin!. Sin is sin!. Adultery(whether an extramarital affair, or premarital sex), in the eyes of God, is as bad as murder!. But you are given chance after chance to repent!.

If there is no God, then life on Earth is pointless!.!.!.

Edit: I'll get about 20 thumbs down for this, but I don't care!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its in the Bible , you have to read it to find it!.! We all do make mistakes in life and we are sup post to learn from them not keep repeating them !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

According to almost every organized religion, sex outside of marriage is a sin (particularly for women)!. However, these religions were designed by men and they were protecting their paternal rights!. That doesn't mean you should consider it all right!. There are diseases and consequences that go with free sex!.

God is above all religions!. What he wants you to do is learn and grow and (if you can) have children!. Be kind to others and help them along the path!. If you believe you have sinned, recognize it and strive to do better!. God will help!.

"The only sin is hurting other people unnecessarily!. It's not a sin to hurt yourself--just stupid!." ---- Robert A!. Heinlein

ADDED: Before you think I am saying free sex is ok, it isn't!. You need to seriously ask yourself before doing it if you would want to have a child by this guy!. It could happen!. To get the best children, you need to look for the best genes (not the best jeans)!. Look beyond the pretty face and good form to a man's character!. If he doesn't have one yet, throw him back and keep fishing!.

The man you marry should be the best provider you can find!. He needs good income and he needs to be good with children!. Intelligent and a sense of humor!. Pretty face is good, but not that important!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello,

Avoiding thes acts is tough for the lot of us I must admit!.
Premarital sex is also called fornication and its condemnation can be found in both the old and New Testaments:

In every form, fornication was sternly condemned by the Mosaic law among God's people, the Israelites (Lev!. 21:9; 19:29; Deut!. 22:20-11, 23-29; 23:18; Ex!. 22:16)!. (See ADULTERY!.)

Fornication is also mentioned many times in the New Testament (Matt!. 5:32; 19:9; John 8:41; Acts 15:20, 29; 21:25; Rom!. 1:29; 1 Cor 5:1, 6:13, 18, 7:2; 10:8; 2 Cor 12:21; Gal 5:19; Eph 5:3; Col 3:5; 1 Thess!. 4:3; Jude 1:7; Rev!. 2:14, 20-21; 9:21; 14:8; 17:2,4)!.
