Question: Why do people think God is real!?

I can't fit more than 1000 character so I must be frank!. God isn't real!. Why did people thousands of years ago believe in sun gods and water gods etc!.!.!. Because they couldnt explain phenomenons like why the sun rose and set!. Or why there powerful storms!. As time progresses, science proves that there are reasons for why these things happen!. If someone were to believe in a sun god today you would think they are crazy!. Well why do you believe there is a superior being that is responsible for everything that is around us!? I don't know how everything came to be, but thats because we are limited by science!. There is a scientific explination for everything, but we have yet to discover how the universe came to be!. Look at evolution!. We weren't born as humans that we are today!. We were probably some small organisms that evolved over millions of years!. And now we are intelligent enough to question our existance!. But are you smart enough to realize that this is it!? You live one life and thats it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't care about an after life!. But I do believe in God and Jesus Christ!.

I don't believe everything in the Bible, and take it literal!.

But I do believe in it for the most part!.

I believe in the big bang and evolution!. Why can't the 2 go together!?

I respect people's beliefs, and don't EVER try to convince or convert someone to my belief or ever really even talk about my belief to people outside my family and parish!.

I see, and agree with alot of Atheists views, but I think they really don't see the picture that I see!.

Don't get me wrong, more times than not I question God to the point where I even profess I don't believe in God!. But somehow, and I don't ask or expect you to understand, I always go back!.

Not for the hope of an afterlife, or hope that God will help me out and answer my prayers, because that all is really something that doesn't matter at all to me, I'm more than ready to die, and see that there's no afterlife!. But I believe because it's bigger than those things, it's not about those things!. The point of life is to help and love others to no extent, Christians have a way different view of Christianity and God than the first Christians did, it was about God and others, now it's just about themselves and how to get to heaven!.

I agree with you that there is no such thing as god!. People created gods not only to give explanations of natural occurrences but it also gave them hope of something after death!. Humans fear the unknown and the thought of just being gone when we die is not very comforting, so I believe they created a false gods, so that they would feel like there was something after death, even if it is incredibly unlikely!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

God is one of many interpretations of the origin of the universe!. It is completely and totally a question of belief!. If he doesn't exist why hasn't science been able to prove that he doesn't!? There is no other valid reason!.
For some, the belief is a valuable, positive influence!.
Misapplied, it can lead to attrocities!.

Evolution has been proved because of observations done over the past 100 some years, of all types of living things evolving and changing form, so I don't know where these christians come from claiming evolution is a crock, when the truth has been laying right in front of their noses all this time!.

I completely agree with you!. Seriously, so many people believe in a "god" because they just CAN'T deal with the physical existence they fester themselves in!. You know how life sucks at times, or alot - dealing with work, people, taxes/bills/car insurance, stress, the list could go ON and ON!. Well, these people pretty much create an illusional world of their own, thinking that if they pray to 'God' every night, and attend regular bible studies and church, that everything will be fine and God will take care of things for them, because let's face it - they're too damn stubborn to admit to the fact that THEY'RE accountable for their OWN actions and motives!. So instead of taking responsibilities for themselves, they have a fictional being do the work for them!. Sounds pretty dumb, right!?

I mean, why worship a God that gives people cancer, curses the "homos" with AIDS, creates lovely massive genocides in Africa, skyrockets the price in these damn gas prices, and brings ugly people into the world!? Well, you tell me!.

When young and not quite exposed to the world of wonders, miracles, etc i was not aware of this great entity called Ultimate Force, God, Superior Being or whatever term they call it!.

But as i grew up beyond my teenage years, and found some time to observe Nature in the countryside, to travel to several countries, to read, debate and research on the smallest and largest particles or components of matter and life in the Universe, including light and the countless unseen waves and other forms of energy(that can do amazing things) i came to realize that there is really one Ultimate Power that created our world and the Universe!.

A simple observation would be the births of animals and humans at every moment, the orderly and complex arrangement of leaves, flowers, the layers of an onion, cabbage, etc!. Your body and mind itself is a most amazing and complex object created, that Man knows of, capable of countless movements, calculations and memory of millions of facts and information!. Yours and my ability to read, understand and type out all these Qs and As on Y!A are already a miracle that the brightest chimpanzee cant perform!. Just imagine also that there are blind children and adults who can play the piano and other musical instruments!? Shouldn't all these magical things that happen be the work of a Superior Being, a god!?

Do not think and become too depressed with other people who have different perception of Life, of God, styles of thinking or living, etc!? One cannot enjoy a peace of mind with extreme thoughts this way and be happy with the world!. Accept all the differences and prejudices that are going on with a pinch of salt, that is the best approach to attain contentment!. As far as possible, dont be too taken up by the term 'real' which far too many folks are loosely using it---real man, real woman, real sex, real food, real God, etc There are also no such ridiculous things as unreal man, unreal God, too!.

I feel the main weakness in your statements is that you rely entirely on Science for an ultimate answer; whereas science can only deal with what is known in the physical world of effects, the seen, that which exists in time and space!.

Is God real!? You will need to ask first of all "What is God!?" and then you'll realize what is real and eternal!. All else is the unreal for it is changing, constantly flowing from one form into another!. What is it that remains unchangeable!?

You say, "You live one life and that's it!." May I ask you: who is this "you" that is living!? And what is Life!? If you can answer these questions then you will understand just what you are made up of!. You are not the body nor the mind, but you are a centre of "awareness" in this sea of universal substance, call it what you will, and we are all part of this Divine Substance!.

You take on the physical body for a period of time on earth and then it is set aside and your consciousness continues in another dimension, more expanded and alive!. There is a load of information out there on these topics and maybe you could look them up sometime if you wish to inquire further!. Call it a learning curve!.

God 1st created the universe and it wasn't much it took him 7 days to make everything so on the 1s t day he created earth wich was dark and not much so he said "let there be light" and there was light!. Mystics are people who have strange experiences and then proceed to tell everyone about them!.

These description are related to the experiences but are not the experiences themselves - they are metaphors for the experiences, inaccurate allegories!.

Perhaps at the time they are created these allegories make sense, but with time the original meaning is lost and people take the allegorical metaphors to be real!.

The simplest example is Classical Greek Mythology which is full of gods!. It is quite obvious that these myths are a form of ancient psychology, a description of the aspects of the mind!. Yet once upon a time people believed these gods to be real in the sense of being divine beings!.

It is likewise with other myths and theologies too!.

But if the mystics had these experiences doesn't it mean God is real!? I think it means that they perhaps misinterpreted their experiences!.

Not exactly, science comprises of just more metaphors for what we experience, even though it wasn't built by mystics!.

All philosophical systems are founded on axiomatically accepted foundations which are not in themselves provable!. If one accepts the axioms then one can find the system to be consistent and correct!. This is often the case with religion!.

In the case of science, causality is generally taken as a given, but many philosophers contest it and then it becomes as much a belief as a belief in God!.
