There is a great documentary called life after humans and that will explain everything, do a search for it on youtube, it's definately worth a view!

Some of the points that it highlights are that CD's only have 100 years or so life on them, paper will decay and eventually turn back into compost, the whole carbon cycle in action!.

The problem with setting these things into stone is that weathering will eventually destroy these, even if they are left inside somewhere as these surrounding will be subject to weathering also!.
Examples of these would be the dead sea scrolls, however some of these have been damaged quite badly, and the hyrogliphics in the pyramids!.

But as I said the documentary will explain it far better than I ever could!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

According to the big bang theory, the universe is exploding - but it is slowing down, and will reach a point when it begins to retract, imploding until it becomes a single mass containing the whole universe!. No 'information' can survive the greatest pressure in the universe which would be caused at this stage!.

So, to answer your question - we can never record history forever, but what we have done to the earth will leave it's marks for potentially millions of years!.

In terms of deliberately recording events - with the birth of the computer age we could already store millions of years worth of data, and that will only increase!. However, just like books were the medium of old, computers will become just that and perhaps all the stored information will become obsolete (unless it is regarded highly enough to transport to the next medium)!.

To answer your question - if we want to, we can record history for the duration of our existance, and we can leave evidence of this history far beyond our existance!. But eventually everything will be lost and the whole process will begin all over again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

rock eventually errodes but it is the most lasting method of recording information i know of!. computer information and stuff is lost so quickly, paper also dissolves away or gets ruined really fast!.

as long as we are alive and keep re-printing everything we can keep it going forever, but if we go extinct tomorrow, archeologists of the future would have no real records of our history to follow!.

I often think that we should carve out important historical events in case such a catastrophe where modern equipment must be discontinued occurs!. without that if such a thing occurred, the survivors many generations down the road might have trouble learning from our mistakes since they would be relying on twisted word of mouth that might eventually be considered fairy tale or legend!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No you cant!. Nature does erase evevrything!. This is a fondamental consequence of the second law of thermodynamics which essentially states that a system cannot stay organized forever!. This is why ice cubes melt, stones turn to sand and stars die!.

Now why anyway would you want to record something "forever" !? The only absolute of this nature are religious: God is assumed to be everlasting!. And since - according to the "intelligent design" theory - God made the world, it is doubtful that he needs to record history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Who knows what forever is - no one's been around long enough!. In terms of the earth, it will eventually die when the sun goes out so it's not eternal!. In terms of human history, we remember and we pass on the stories to our children and them to their children and so on!. As long as humans are alive, we will record our history in the new technology replacing the old with the new and allowing future generations to see how far we have come (or not so far)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

History will never be forever!.!.!. with every death, there is that much information lost!. Have you ever kept a secret!? Never told a single soul!.!.!. there is not enough time to tell everybody every thought, every theory you have and be able to record it all!. Eventually, the wind will erode away all!.!.!. It's sad, even the world's greatest leaders, are not remembered properly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is very intresting question + an highly intellectual question i must say, luk we are reading about egypt history of 5 thousands years ago, who saved it!? i think they didnt not saves intentially , its nature who is bringing up it to us, about all ancinet hisotries u cld say before christ or even more then that its a system of nature that nature n ALLAH save it n bring it to us what is imp n what is neede at what time!. so nothign to worry, every thign will be finsihed at the end but our history will remain,!. n on the bases of it that what we did oin the world allah HAS ALL OF OUR FULL record n we will be asked by him at the bases of every seconds of our life, Best of luckWww@QuestionHome@Com

well, eventually nature erases MOST!.!. but nowadays we do have the technology to do this!. we can carve the whole history of the earth, into the moons surface, using a guided laser beam!. There are footprints on the moon that are 45 yrs old or more, so i think i'd stick!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

One day everything about the human race will be wiped out no matter what, so no we could not record history forever!. Even if we found out how eventually the sun will explode and take it out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good point!.!.!.for years now I've been some what disagreeing with the historians, and their views of mans existence!.!.!.!.for all they know is written, and or past down!.!.!.!.but what of before written words!. Or before spoken words!.!.!.!.who knows!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I think human beings will be all extinct finally, may be in another millions of years, so things will be erased by nature for a new world but not everything will!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Given enough time the Universe recycles itself!. After all, we are all made of star stuff!. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust and all that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

nature eventually erases everything!.
