Go back few centuries for example, take French Revolution, aristocracy meant a commoner had no rights to express himself, and therefore by default was unable to fight for his/her rights!.

Look through the centuries, Civic rights movements, Protests against Vietnam war, Rights for women etc!. It is the guarantee of freedom of expression now completely ingrained with our ideas of democracy, that allows us to create a society that reflects our views!.

It also advances knowledge, for example free expression of ides leads to new understandings, eg science, philosophy etc!.

It also guarantees everyone's right to express, eg Religion, Politics etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Look at the great changes in the world!. Religion, society, all come from someone expressing themselves differently from the main stream!. That is why expression is so important!. we are not the same and to be able to express ourselves and be who we are is very important!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Freedom of speach is very important if you were ever told to shut up while you were speaking of something from your heart you would see how important!. it hurts to be told that your opinion doesn't matter that what you have to say isn't important enough to warrant listening!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The most powerful thing a man has is his thoughts and the power to voice them!.

I mean, you wouldn't want to say something and be put in jail for it, would you!? It's ridiculous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
