The scientist explain the universe and its laws through mathmatics, but they still can't agree on whether mathmatics is an invention of the human mind or a discovery of something that has always been there!.

Is there such a thing as Original thought!?!?!?!?!?

some philosophers say no, artists disagree

I am having to write an end of term essay about creativity and the difference between invention and discovery so I am glad you have asked this question, perhaps some answers will give me some inspiration alsoWww@QuestionHome@Com

Great question!! Worth some deep thinking!!

Life that is lived well enough, invariably involves both discovery through seeking and invention through creation!.!.!.!.!.!.!. unless there is a good mix of both, we can not develop into a well defined unique personality!. What is more interesting here to note is that every discovery is worth it only if it can lead to some invention and every invention is worth it only if it means some discovery for others!. Absence of either would impact the other and thereby the life would turn out to be stagnant and infertile, that is dead and useless!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Life is a mirrored wall of illusion!. Man is delusional!. He creates and destructs his own world about him with the tools of his love, ambition, fear and hatred!.

Mankind discovers new frontiers, new world, new people only to find that which he sought to escape!. His nirvana, his hell, his greatest joy and his torment is one and the same!.

He who strives to conquer his own mind, conquers the world thereby!. They who seek or covet power over others prior to overpowering their own will, fail!. They who have mastered their own will, have little need to master the world for they find the universe contained within their imaginations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi SU,
Mine may not be a philosophical answer so sorry for that!.
What I believe is that a discovery is something which already exists, whereas an invention is something which has been created as being entirely new!.
For example, America was discovered (probably by the Vikings in the 10th or 11th Century)!. America existed and so it could not be invented!. It had to be discovered!.
On the other hand a chocolate bar could be invented!. So although the peoples of Central America may have known about the cacao trees for hundreds of years, they were 'discovered' by Europeans, who brought back the cocoa beans from Central America!. These beans were then made into the same drink as had been made in America for years, again a discovery!. However, when the Europeans found new ways to grind up the beans and mix them together with sugar and cream or milk, then this created chocolate and so this is an invention !
So I doubt if either could have taken place without life!.Inventing is a passion that can be an obsession!. “The state of mind which enables a man to do work of this kind is akin to that of the religious worshiper or the lover; the daily effort comes from no deliberate intention or program, but straight from the heart!.” Albert Einstein!.
SU, Einstein also said, “To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old questions from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance!.” and “Imagination is more important than knowledge!.” Inventors often envision a new idea, seeing it in their mind!. New ideas often come when the conscious mind turns away from the subject or problem, when you are focusing on something else, relaxing, at rest or sleeping!. A novel idea may come in a flash - Eureka! For example, after years of working to figure out the general theory of relativity, the solution came to Einstein suddenly in a dream “like a giant die making an indelible impress, a huge map of the universe outlined itself in one clear vision!.”
SU, I will leave you with a quote by Plato;
"Necessity, who is the mother of invention!."
Great question!.
Good luck my friend,

Interesting question!

Life is a process of invention and that of discovery!. Why do i say this my friend!. Life is indeed a creation because we are the architects of our own lives!. We make our own lives! To quote Thoreau: "What a man thinks of himself, that it is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate"!.

Life is a discovery because there are a lot in stored for us!. We only have to believe on ourselves, without that nothing else matters!. We just ought to know our strenghts and weaknesses!. weaknesses after all is just temporary!. We only need to take chances in life!. It is said "A ship in a harbor is safe, but that isn't what ships are built for"!.

Thanks for asking!. Have a great day!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both!.

Your mind/soul has the ability to invent "things" to which have never been "thought" of!.

also as apart of living your mind/soul has the ability of discovery when it comes to different people, and the mysteries of this world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
