Question: Is a harsh childhood a valid excuse for bad behaviour!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No, never!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No I dont think a harsh childhood is a valid excuse, everyone is responsible for their own behaviour!.

also what needs to be taken into consideration is the age of the child, children act by what they have seen and learnt!.

Adults need to take responsibility, parents need to take responsibility for the way they bring up their children, U dont have to impact your child's life because of what happened to u!. People can make a change and become positive role models and change their environment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, and, as one who is a Daycare Worker, I neither let kids use it as a convenient excuse, nor do I let them get away with such behavior!. I have one boy who is very self-centered, deceptive, and can be a bully when he doesn't get his way!. He cheats at games every chance he gets, tells lies, dodges questions like he doesn't understand when he really does, and has hit, bit, and put other kids (especially those younger then he) in a reverse hammer lock to get what he wants!. Even though he got adopted out of a drug situation, as well as has emotional disorders, I don't let him bully the other kids!. Quite frankly, after being with him for ten months, I told him that he is actually not as dumb as he wants others to think he is, and he gave me the dirtiest of looks for saying it!.

I don't mean to sound like I don't care for the boy, because I do!. But, I can tell, since he has heard, "He's has had such a harsh childhood" all his life, he knows how to play it to his advantage!. I won't let him get away with it, and the other kids are very thankful that I don't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Everyone has to make a decision at one point in their life about who they are, what they want to become, and how they will let their past affect them!. A harsh childhood isn't a valid excuse!.!.!.it's a something to fall back on when a person doesn't want to stand up and take responsibility for their actions, they have the ability to decide what they want to become without blaming their outcome on their past!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It can certainly help others to see where the person may have developed the basis for the behaviour, but personal accountability is too important to allow the behaviour because of some flittering glimpse into the person's history!.

No, personal behaviour is a matter of personal choice!. Sure, we all mimic and portray much of what we see as we develop!.

But we gain a sense of self and a sense of community and we understand that society has rules and that if we want to be a part of that society or community, we must behave within the confines of the accepted societal norms!.

Thus, we know what is expected of us, we know acceptable from unacceptable behaviour!. Whether we choose to behave well, is up to us entirely!.

Don't however, underestimate the impact of childhood on the adult!.

A 47 year-old man took his life due to the injuries inflicted upon his soul and psyche as a child!.

He never recovered from those childhood atrocities and suffered his entire life from the inner hatred and shame that those hurts inflicted upon him and left him to grapple with!.

Had those in control only seen the way things would turn out for this strong, loving, beautiful young man, they would have stayed their hands and quieted their tongues!.

So, no!. But be good to your babies!. Don't forget they will care for you when you return to being a baby in your old age!.

How do you want them to learn to care for others!?!? This they will learn from you and you will receive that very care in time!.

Think about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A harsh childhood only is an excuse for bad behavior in certain situations!. For example, if the person is grumpy or short tempered at a local park where theres little kids with their famalies or at a restaurant filled with little kids!.!. then it can be understood because most likely this person never experianced that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

people act in relation to how they are treated!. so treat people well and they will treat others well!.

that's why "treat others as you would wish to be treated" is so important!.

so i think it would be a cause for sure, i don't know if i would use the word excuse!.

but just think about how many people are in prison because of how life and society has treated them!.

this is why i think it is important to try to remove poverty and bad neighbourhoods in the U!.S!.

prisoners are indications of a dysfunctional society!. a society that treats some badly and thus they do bad things!.

so demand that your government treats its citizens well and your streets will be safer!. though fixing a problem might involve more than that!. but that's all you need for maintaining it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not completely, but it does lend some weight to the argument!.
Take a look at the track record of the majority of youths that receive ASBOs'!. Would it surprise you that they come from tough neighbourhoods, and some from one parent families!? Would it surprise you to find a background of alcohol, drugs and crime!?

The tragedy is that this can been seen from an early stage in childhood through Primary school!. Little is done as this is seen as the "norm" for these kids!. Fast forward 10 years and it becomes a bigger problem that we all end up paying for!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Absolutely---NOT! I had a horrendous childhood- It could always be worse! Laying blame and living in the past and being the 'victim' is such a miserable way to live! And the "baggage"! Why would anyone want to drag all that baggage around for the rest of their life!?
You are literally 'wearing' the past! You will never, not only 'see' "outside the box" -but, you will never find your way out of it either! Get out while the gettin's good! don't allow your'self' to be imprisoned in the past! What a way to Live:(!~Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not and excuse but a reason, yes
but many people suffer great hardship and abuse and grow to be wonderful people
all we can controll in our lives is how we react to things we choose to react with positive or netative every day
if abused you can be bitter
or you can grow up and open a home for abused kidsWww@QuestionHome@Com

So a good childhood guarantees a good person!? Naw, I dont buy it!.

In my experience, a person who has lived through severe trauma, is more compassionate, usually shy, and a staunch defender of the oppressed!.

But when in need, any excuse will do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the level of "harshness!." If you were put in a dog kennel and made to wear a shock collar as punishment, I'm sure we can all see how that could possibly affect someone for the rest of their lives!. People shouldn't be so quick to say "get over it" when they don't know what they're asking the other person to get over!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

first of all what is an excuse!? to make a wrong right!?
if they make it an excuse then its not excusable!.

people adapt to their environment, but its also our choice to adapt back!. if youve been treated really bad i wouldnt blame him if he was a bit mistrustful and hostile!. since he never knew anything else, ill feel sorry for him!. but he cant make any excuses since the wheel still goes round and roundWww@QuestionHome@Com

No, because the person ought to be making the world a better place for the pple he/she meets in order for them to have a better experience than what the victim had!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is never an excuse!. I had a very harsh childhood, but i also felt for my family!. The bad behaviour is something deeper than that persons childhood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Neither genetics nor environment determine a person's behavior!. Our behavior is determined by our free, unfettered choices!. Each person is 100 percent responsible for the choices made!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

absolutely in people that have received little or none sexual respect as small children and teenagers, those moments of defenselesness always come back triggering a violent or irresponsible act!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, behavior is a choice!. A harsh childhood can make it harder for an adult to make good choices, but they still make their own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Genetics play a small part on our lives but it is our environment which has the greatest influence on us!. Without some sense of something greater then self to help guide us we can suffer as we all need guidance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not an excuse but perhaps an origin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no, i think it makes perfect sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
