it is many things to many people= like you are not driving with all your plug wires hooked up== you are not the smartest marble in the box== your a dime short of a dollar== but don't worry, there's always another boat coming by, so odds are you'll catch one of um and won't be late for your therapy, at least one time==Www@QuestionHome@Com

there is two meanings
1)"you missed the boat" means that you had an oporitunity but you missed it and you wont have that oporitunity in a really long time

2)"you missed the boat" means that someone said something and you completely didnt understand what the person was saying or you didnt understand the main idea of what that person was trying to sayWww@QuestionHome@Com

It is usually interpreted as a metaphor!. That is how everyone above me interpreted it!. And they are correct!.
