Question: Do you think your True Identity is a timeless & formless Presence!?

hmmm!.!.!.I'm stuck on the word "true!." Do you mean like "really, really, real!?" Or, do you mean something like, "uncorrupted, unbiased, and objective!?" I'll assume that you mean a mixture of the two!. If indeed identity is timeless and formless, then it must be so through and through!. This means that "true identity" becomes a kind of misnomer, especially if we consider there to be some kind of "presence" that can be gathered to be called, "identity!." Sheesh, it seems like I'm being overly philosophical!. So, let me bring it down to earth a bit!. Let's try this:

Yes, identity can be timeless and formless!. But, if it is timeless and formless, then we cannot expect to ever "truly" know it!.!.!.it would constantly elude our attempts to grasp it!. As Alan Watts often suggests, "trying to define yourself is a bit like trying to bit your own teeth!. You cannot bite your own teeth!. Which are you!? The "who" that is biting, or the "who" that is being bitten!?"

More still, Sartre is found of pointing out that "a part of you flees from you!." That is, part of being an identity is our identity for others!. Other people help make us who we are!. They clothes us we certain expectations, roles, and desires that we then "take up" and live out!. They help to complete our identity!. Consider this: when I die all that remains is a body!.!.!.other people will mourn my death!. My "death," something that is wholly and completely mine and no one else's, my final act, nonetheless, is not "for me!." Other people have my death, but I will never know it!. Or consider this: Sartre suggests that we might have a more intimate understanding of ourselves than others, but we can never be wholly objective, in terms of being unbiased!. There are parts of my identity that only other people can bring into existence!.

All of this is to say that identity is timeless, formless, and is a constant social play!.!.!.but is so, through and through!. And so, to suggest that there is a "true identity" that is also timeless and formless is to miss the point!.!.!.

One last point!. Kenneth Burke cautions us against the uncritical pursuit of "perfection," by which he means something like seeking the "final word," the truth of truths!. In response St!. Exupery offers the following suggestion: "I know of only one thing that is perfect, and that is death!." The seeking of the true identity is possible, but it will elude us in our death, just as we cannot bite our own teeth!. To know true identity!?: Death!. Identity is a timeless and formless event, through and through!.

I'm always cautious with modifiers!. What is "true" identity versus identity!? The implication is that there is a true and false identity!.

Confident people tend to be authentic!. Those who are excessively concern about others, what they think, say or do, are likely to be less honest in their identities!.

We all change over time, so who we "truly" are is only true of the moment!. Who you and I were 10 years ago is different than who we are today and we will likely be different in the future!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Awareness is my real identity!.!. This awareness is timeless and exists only in the present!.!. I’m aware of the past and of the future!.!. but my past and future selves are still ego projections!. My true identity is that I’m aware!.!. and I’m aware of my awareness right now!.!. which means I am self aware!.!.Awareness is the container in which everything takes place!.!. and there is no outer container beyond it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. We're all complex, and can be different identities in different situations, or at different stages of life!. Being mortal I'm neither timeless nor formless, though I incorporate into my present identity much I owe to previous generations, and my present form will change!. It's all an adventure!. What fun, while we can embrace the lessons!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I absolutely do!. I can remember my life before I could walk or talk and remember people talking around me and to me and completely understanding them then feeling frustrated that my mouth couldn't get the words out to respond to them!. I've been around a lot longer than the 47 years of this body's life!. I have also been able to get around places I've never been before without directions or getting lost because it felt like I'd been there, and knowing more than what I've learned in this life as well!. Yeppers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. :)
I believe my "true identity" to be my soul!. Our souls make us different as beings, besides our appearances, if we didn't have a soul, we would all the same!.
and since our souls are timeless and formless, it all makes sense to me :D
Very interesting question by the way ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, but it's hard to see past the ego!.
Our body, mind, memory's, beliefs, emotions and opinions are like a fingernail clipping, and like that clipping of little interest to our greater self when discarded!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
