I think it is as important as the individual wants it to be!. It may be a cultural thing or a religious thing, or just an individual choice!. The idea of virginity and "purity" was of much greater consequence in earlier times, but that doesn't mean that it can't hold some bit of importance now, at least for some people!.

I don't feel that a person (especially a female) loses their value or worth when they lose their virginity, but I think it is important to value your body and your personal space and maintain your self-respect, virgin or not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Virginity is important and I could give you my reasons why!. But what is most important is that we obey the One who created us to remain a virgin until we wed!. He tells us this to protect us from the many negative consequences that have resulted from so many people "doing their own thing", whenever, where-ever, and with whomever they want!. And He tells us to remain a virgin until we wed, to reward/bless us with a wonderful, beautifully pleasing experience of intimacy with that person who is to be our one and only!.

I think it goes back to that sense of ownership in men, historically speaking, women were in many cases little more then chattel!. So, your women had best come with a "Never been opened label"!.
