Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If by "playing God" you mean trying to control (aspects of) the world, then a lot of things are playing God!. I say "aspects of" because there has never, to the best of my knowledge, been an attempt to control absolutely every single thing about the world!. Humans efforts fall on a continuum of controlling aspects of the world from large aspects (think climate change) to minor aspects (the cleanliness of my desk!.) Economics, like nearly everything else we do, seems to fall somewhere on that continuum!. Why economics doesn't seem to work very well is a different and, I think, more interesting question!. I don't know enough about economics to give any sort of educated answer, but I think one of the answers to this question lies in the fact that economics takes a notoriously false ideal of human behavior (that is, rationally self-interested) on which it bases both it's predictions and statements about how the world "ought" to be!. Still though, economists do have their successes, and no doubt what I just said is way oversimplified!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Apparently!.!.!.!. It never seems to be satisfactory because as you say, it is a way of "playing" God!. Playing, means imitating in a way!. It never reaches the target!. It never becomes the real thing, the one and only, the real Master of the World!. There is always something contradicting Economics!. Call it Soul, call it Feelings, call it Peace!.!.!.!. whatever!. What the stock market does, the consumer satisfaction, housings, etc!., goes on forever!. Nothing ever changes and no one is ever happy!. Playing God!? That must look ugly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com i think it is another way of playing god!. it is never satisfactory because power, inherently, cant be satisfactory!. power corrupts!. if you have total power you will doubt those arround you and come to hate and fear your closest friends!. power can only lead to more power!. it goes like this: first you want power to control your life!. then you realize you arnt in control, (there is someone with more power) so you want more and more unitll you are dictator of the world!. then you realize you cant trust anyone becaue they could hurt you and thus have power over you!. that leads to insanity or death!. it is never satisfactory becaue you are looking for the wrong thing when you want power!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Man isn't perfect so he messes it up all the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com |
