I'm not sure what your illness is, but it gives you a different view from the average person!. Don't let what other people think about mental illness effect how you feel about yourself!. Make choices that give you peace of mind!. The choices may be different from choices made by others!. That is okay!. Live your life for you!. You don't have to accept your dad!. If you both want to be a part of the other's life, get counseling!. If the relationship is poison, cut it out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The meaning of the words in the Serenity Prayer actually have great meaning, even for atheists like me, because the meaning has great significance in "acceptance!."

Things over which you have no control are not worth denying as "unacceptable!." If you have a mental illness, how can you NOT accept it!? It does not mean liking it!. It means doing something about it, because it is in the 'doing' that we prove we accept!.

And it is in the doing that we prove we know the difference between things we CAN change and things we CANNOT change!. Perhaps your father is someone you cannot change now--or ever!. Maybe you are not trying to change him!. But if you can't do anything about him--at this moment--ACCEPT THAT YOU CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT HIM AT THIS MOMENT!

Then, think about what you might be able to do, and if you find that you can do what you think you can do, DO IT!

That is the "wisdom to know the difference", and in knowing the difference between "the things you cannot change," and those you can, you can learn to discover other things you can change that you could not have been changed if you had not changed the first things you could change!

I used to be bitter about many of the things that had happened in my life!. I thought "Why should I accept it!?"!. I was angry that so many things happened that I couldn't control, and I couldn't understand why or how I was supposed to live the rest of my life having to deal with all the crap I had been dealt, and dealt myself!.

What happened was that I found meaning!. I found it my own way, and you will, too!.

My lowest time was while I was pregnant, I was depressed, angry with my husband, fearful for my child!. I wanted to run away, and hated that I couldn'y undo the fact that I was about to bring a poor child into the world, and for it to have me as a mother!.!.!.

And then he was born, and he made me see myself for who I am, faults and all!. He gave me the strength to wake up every morning and accept that yesterday was crappy/great/ ordinary, he made me realise that those people in the world who want to hurt me don't matter, and that there was more to the world than me and my anger!.

I am sorry that you have such a tough time accepting things, I know everyone has their own circumstances, and really only you can find the answer to your question!. This may sound stupid, but I used to try to think of people who are far worse off than me!. also, think of the things you have to be grateful for!. Write a journal, it is very hard a first, but write the good things down even if you don't mean them!. Hopefully, you will come to be able to focus on even the smalless positives in life rather than the many negatives!.

First of all, I accept (& bound to accept) all the things that came with my life------it could be blindness, certain illness, poverty----anything you say!. Then, secondly, as maturity comes to my life, I decide what to do on what!. Say, I'm inborn blind; I had to accept it but that doesn't mean I have to be a blind beggar in front of a church on Sundays! I'll get admission at any blind school!. Finally, one has to accept one's life as it is & then modify accordingly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stress and tension are the cause of the problems in your life, is you see them as the problem in place of what you see as your problems you are going to live better, believe me!.
to get ride of them just don't think in them, think just in things that make you happy, there are always a lot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First find your God, no matter which way you chose to worship!. You have to learn to love yourself before you can love anyone else!. Look for the positive in life rather than the negative!. Perhaps you know it can be changed and so it's good to fight for that change!. I was once mentally ill and with help years later I got as normal as anyone and have been for 40 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
