Question: Do most people equate who they are with what they have!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I think so!.
In a way they can go hand in hand!.
You recognize yourself by what you have in life!.
In the terms of 'what a person has', could be
looks, money, talent, family, friends, etc!., and the importance differs upon each individual!.
It’s taught by some to become your own person and work for what you want in life!.
For many, that’s how they became the person they are today!. They work hard on their own to get the things they have in life!.
When you put thought and effort into achieving a goal, it seems to have more meaning once it’s accomplished!.
When I think of what I have in life, I see it more as who I am!.
It has been the material and nonmat'l factors from my past, which has brought me to my present way, which will eventually influence the future lifestyle I’ll have!.
If I lost everything I have in my life, my first reaction would be confusion, fear, leading to a feeling of nothingness!.
I wouldn’t think less of myself as a person, yet more the feeling compared to when your computer crashes on you while working on a school final that’s due in 10 mins!.

But there can be another side seen to this!.!.!.
Some people want to be known and see themselves by Who they are, which regards things such as beliefs in life, personality traits, characteristics!.!.!. more about what’s on the inside
If a person wants to be known for What they have, it is most likely based on material possessions!.
Things such as a successful job, money, cars, fancy clothes, etc!. will all be seen as what kindof person you are!. The more you have, the better!.
I don’t equate mine or other characters of being a 'good' or 'bad' person based on material possessions!.
However, my personal feelings or reactions to a gain or loss in a material possession may vary!.
If I had the choice I would rather a person judge me as Who I am rather than What I have!.
Even though What people have may be important in life, if you ever lose those things, you still, and always will, have yourself!.
I know threes a long path ahead of me, and I’m not sure where it goes, but I try not to forget who I am when I feel lost!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's hard not to identify strongly yourself with your "stuff" !.!.!. it's a way of coming to terms with the world, so to speak!.

That is to say, surrounding yourself with your possessions helps you actualise your inner self in your outer environment !.!.!. it helps reduce the alienation you feel between yourself and the outside world!.

So it's only natural to use our possessions as markers of our personal identity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In my opinion, I think people identify themselves and others too much with what material things they have, when they should be focusing on the non-material things!. Do they have a good heart, helping hands, non-judging eyes, a smile that cures, a hug to offer!? Instead many people base who they are on what type of car they drive, how big their paycheck is, how nice their house is!.!.!.etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most people do, when they are seen by others!. But when you are alone, that is when the true measure comes out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
