Question: Is morality objective or subjective!? What are your thoughts!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Some morals are universal throughout every culture others are unique to individual cultures!.
Objective and subjective!?
Do you mean as far as the individual is concerned!?
Do you really have to ask!?
Subjective of course!.
But if you are talking about a "culture" or stable social structure then their is evidence to suggest that some morals are universal or else you are no longer talking about a "culture" but rather a natural state of group dynamics!.
The term culture or society includes the concept of agreed upon norms of behavior some of which are universal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is objective and subjective depending on the person seeing it!. Moral rules are often diluted into tautologies through successive interpretations tomake them coincide with what one already approves!. Consider the rule "Do not kill"!. Presumably this rule refers to human beings!. But many would extend it to animals, at least the animals they like, such as dogs and horses; and others, such as the HIndus, extend it to all forms of life!.

If you want moral rules to be guides to action, they must be rules that say something, rules with teeth in them, rules that permit some actions and prohibit others, not empty tautologies masquerading as moral rules, to which everyone can agree simply because the rules are empty and vacuous!.!. You should always do what is your duty, may be a fine and noble sentiment!. But unfortunately, being a tautology, it tells you absolutely nothing about what specific actions or kinds of actions you should perform!.

Thanks for asking!. Have a great day!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Morality is concerned with the dealings and behavior between humans!. It is thus a human enterprise and human invention, and does not exist independently in nature!. If it did have an objective existence, it should be verifiable!. But it does not and is not!. What _does_ exist are numerous examples where what is right for one person is wrong for another!. It is a simple fact that people are unable to agree on what an "objective morality" should be!. Furthermore, there is no objective methodology for determining what an objective morality should be!.

Finally, to those who still contend that morality is objective, I would ask, just whose "objective" morality are we to use!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both!.

Morality is acquired from objective means such as evolution, and Game Theory; but is mostly subjectve in the sense that different cultures and experiences give people different ideas on morality and no one persons view is necessarily better than another!. What is seen as right or wrong or right and left depends on wjhat direction you are facing!.

There are however many similarities in moral codes just as their are many similarities in peoples inherited looks or acultural biases!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is subjective if you consider the wide variety of moral ideas in the world!. An idealist would tell you that it is objective but that would be condemning the idea of individuality!.

thou shalt not kill:
Objective, you are going to hell even if you kill someone while defending yourself or your family!.
Subjective, defend yourself and your family when necessaryWww@QuestionHome@Com

How could I be the one giving down thumbs!? I have more down thumbs than half the people here!.!.!. and an equal number as the other half!. Think before you speak!. You have a bad habit of saying stupid things to me!. Just because Im the only one unbiased, unbigoted and unselfish enough to lay claim to objective morality doesnt mean Im the one downing people!. Its the "subjectivists" that have something against my answer, too!.!.!. but of course you chose to disregard that fact when casting a judgment!.

Morality is objective!. The subjective component of society is a cultural etiquette that has no intrinsic moral value!. The root of and commonalities among cultures demonstrate an objective moral truth!. Morality is that which, if discussed rationally, can be proven universal and objective!. I believe that morality can be conveyed and everyone can be convinced of it if they dont already believe it!. I think morality is programmed into every human being as an inherent truth!. Murder is immoral in every culture, so is stealing, so is rape, etcetera!. What exactly do you consider subjective besides the unique cultures themselves!? Granted!.!.!. some people do commit murder and rape!. Just because they can rationalize it doesnt make it a subjective thing!. Is that a sufficient explanation for you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Morality is always, always subjective!. There is no objectivity whatsoever in a discipline entirely given over to the actions of human subjects!. C'est toute en-soi et pour-soi!. Say what you like about any objective standards, if they are not appropriated and acted upon it is as if they didn't exist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Like the value of a dollar, morals exist by convention!.

For example, we all agree that killing is morally wrong because nobody wants to be killed or, more importantly, allow their children to kill each other!.

Both economic conventions and moral conventions were invented out of necessity!.

you cant be objective when it comes to morality, thats the whole point, objectiveness would bypass morality and see it objectively!. but you can be subjectively objective
theres your answer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Morality basing on self-knowledge is real morality!.
The subjective or objective morality refers to mind,so such
type of morality is immorality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both!. I see immorality as any thought or action that causes harm to myself or others!. Its subjective when it comes to myself but objective when it comes to others!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

subjective !.a personal point of viewWww@QuestionHome@Com

i believe its subjective, since every person has different values and principles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In my Subjective view mtheoryrules has the correct answer!

Objectivity can only truly exist, when one is a whole with all the has ever been and will ever be!

Not everybody shares the same idea concerning morality!
Just think about drugs and prostitution and of course crime in general!
Do the people who partake in the above share the same moral ideology as you and everyone else!?

EDIT I find cogito's answer very subjective to his understanding of cultural practise and also the fact that he has chosen only some of the moral concepts as the subject of his answer to prove objectivity! also show his subjectiveness!.
The reality is if such things where truly objectively immoral these acts would never occur!
So the very fact that they exist proves beyond a shadow of doubt that to some subjects (those who commit immoral acts) the concept of morality is subjective!
So if some see them as subjective it is impossible that the whole group share the same concepts of morality! Therefore morality is SUBJECTIVE! no matter how big the subject group is if it is only a part of the whole the logic of objectivity fails!

I hope that my answer makes a little sense :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com
