I would say that the woman probably isn't aware of the infidelity, because if she were, she'd be wise to kick his butt and leave him to rot!!!!

Actually, though, being a woman, I can't really understand what would be going through a man's mind by choosing to stay!. I can only make a few guesses:

Maybe he's feeling guilty for what he did and wants to put it behind him, even if it means "settling" for someone he doesn't love!.

Maybe it means he's gotten away with it before so he figures if he stays with her, he can do it again!?

Maybe by cheating on her, he has come to realize how utterly stupid he was and that he actually really DOES love her and it took his nearly losing her to make him realize it!.

It probably means she has more to offer/benefits (possibly better off financially, better social status) than the other woman!. That or he never meant to leave her!.

He probably doesn't love her more because if he did, why would he cheat on her in the first place!?
