Question: If someone was pregnant and the child was found to have Trisomy 13, would it be better to keep or abort!?
80% of babies with this don't survive infancy, 80% have heart defects!. There are many issues including retardation, breathing difficulties, seizures, hearing/vision problems, feeding problems, and many cosmetic issues that would ensure an abnormal social life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i watched a movie on this disease once and it broke my heart!. Before the movie i probably would have said that aborting it was wrong, but nowi see that to allow it to suffer horribly would be worse!. i know that many religions would consider this murder, but i do not and could not believe in a god that would allow someone to suffer as much as the kids on the video did!. A loving god would understand the reasoning one had for getting the abortion and they would not be punished or anything for this decision, now should they be!.its easy to talk about something you have not lived, but i have a disabled brother and can see that not being might not be so bad for some people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Abortion certainly SEEMS merciful, doesn't it!? A few questions may help us on our way to an answer:

1!. What of elderly people who have similar problems due to geriotological issues!? Why not terminate their life as well!?
Do we make different decisions regarding the worthiness of a human to live based on age!? If not, why ought the unborn human have the right to exist, no matter how tragic that life may be!?

2!. Had you or I been aborted, would we be here to discuss this at all!?

This may sound strange, but this is an excellent question to wrestle with!. I would add that, it is always right to choose life, no matter the quality therof!.

If it were me alone, I would probably do it!. My girlfriend suffers from some mild birth defects of her own, she would never wish worse ones (or even what she has) on anybody else!.

Anyone else but me, I wouldn't presume to counsel!.

I believe taking a life which has done no harm is wrong, but I believe that allowing it to suffer is wronger!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Better for who!? To answer this question, you need to assert what your values are!. A Catholic will, if following dogma, say yes, for every life is sacred!. A Pragmatist will say no, for there will be no return for the resources spent on such a child!.

As for me, I do not think I could come up with an answer that was true for me, unless this was my problem, and I could see it in my life, at that moment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Expecting Adam, Martha Beck, Ph!.D!., is good about a mother's wrestling with this general topic (Down's syndrome, specifically)!.

"The Path of the Higher Self," Mark Prophet, and
"The Great Divorce," C!. S!. Lewis, also good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

These are Down Syndrome Babies!. More than 80% survive infancy!. The gene is found in the 4th month!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.and an abortion would be preformed in the 20th week!. ( Probably a saline abortion) It would be a very hard call!. I for one would not know what I would do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
