Question: Emotions and Logic seem to be contradictive!. Is emotion just there to promote reproduction!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
First of all, emotions add to the richness and variety that is life!. They may not all be good or pleasant, but some of them are!. As such, a whole-scale loss of emotions would be generally bad on that basis!. Pretty much nobody voluntarily puts out their eyes because they see unpleasant things or burns their taste buds out because they ate some poorly-cooked food!. They just learn and do better in the future!.

Emotions are certainly not the only source of conflict!. Nobody has a perfect ability to reason; even our best reasoners can disagree!. And not just about points of intellectual discussion but also on some of the very core ideas about how life should be lived and what ethical code should be followed!. Some crimes and wars are instigated by the 'heat of passion' but many are done completely cold as well!. So having no emotions is certainly not a panacea for crime or war!.

Ultimately, I would point to nature!. We alone of all creatures have a massive ability to reason, but many, many animals seem to possess emotions on some level!. Perhaps not as complicated as our own, but definitely there!. This suggests to me that emotions must overall be beneficial to survival rather than detrimental!. Though we dominate the world now through reason, it is possible this is just a fluke!. Emotion has a proven track record!.

There ARE some people who do not experience the full range of emotions that the rest of us do!. To my knowledge, they are never hailed as super-men, but pitied instead!. They often have difficulty working with the rest of society or even understanding us to any great degree!. This may point to some of the hidden benefits that our emotionality has!. Check out the book 'An Anthropologist on Mars' for a clinical (non-fiction!) account of how such a person interacts!.

Consider also that the set of emotional responses and the set of rational ones are not necessarily completely different!. In many cases, an emotional response IS completely reasonable, and the reasonable thing to do is to make use of an experience emotion!. Likewise, just as there are some problems that pure emotion cannot solve, does it not seem reasonable that there might also be some problems that pure reason is incapable of grappling with!? Reason might therefore suggest that there are some circumstances where it is BETTER to be unreasonable!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hell no!! of course not! how can they be contradictive! In my opinion emotions are the only things that matters most and make a sense for me!

Edit: why do we have emotions!? what a strange question though worth wondering about it!.!.!. just imagine a planet all covered in ice just like the poles! all ice and nothing but ice and snow! and you will have to live there for ever! what would you feel like!? is that pleasant!?!? That's what it is like when human are devoid of emotions!.
of course we need a balance between emotions and logic, but this doesn't make them contradictory but complementary~! they empower each other!
I hope u get my point!.!.

emotions involve thinking with your heart!. logic involves thinking in your right mind!. reproduction involves thinking with something else!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think you have a good point there, but i think emotions are there for more than attraction and reproduction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
