sacrifising your life for another is probably the biggest selfless thing you could ever do!. But doesn't it go against the laws of survival of the fittest!? what do you think!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is one thing a person don't know until the time comes!. So the only ones of us that can say yes have been there done that!. Every GI that's ever put on a uniform has been there!. We take a Pleage to every human in our country to die for them!. And just like the fireman , cops and everyone else thjat's been there done that I/we can say yes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First, I'm not so sure about this being the "ultimate sacrifice"!. It's a big one, sure, but so is any self-abnegation and frankly there's probably worse than simply dying for some one else!.

That said, I think it probably depends highly on the circumstances!. The quick answer is "absolutely" -- there *are circumstances* under which I would certainly choose to die if, as a direct result of that, some one else would not die!.

Knowing that there are also circumstances under which I would make the *exact opposite* choice is almost enough to start one on a life of philosophical inquiry!.!.!. (it would probably take about that long to give the question it's due)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would agree the rationally, placing other humans above you as more important goes against reason!. But I cannot truly understand much of human sacrifice that happens on a daily basis!. And by being potentially critical, I would receive much criticism and controversy!. Here is the view on altruism by two famous philosophers:
Friedrich Nietzsche held that the idea that it is virtuous to treat others more important than oneself is degrading and demeaning to the self!. He also believed in the idea that others have a higher value than oneself hinders the individual's pursuit of self-development, excellence, and creativity!. For Nietzsche altruistic love was fabricated by the weak for the weak!. It masks self-poisoning resentment about individual and collective powerlessness!. Critics like Roderick Hindery respond that Nietzsche's own assumptions about domination by self-interest and the "will to power" are gratuitous and ideological!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i would die to save some one else's life!. if you believe that you are here to serve a greater purpose in life; then perhaps saving another is fulfilling that purpose!. i suppose it all depends on your individual belief system!. as for the survival of the fittest!.!.!. i think it depends on your own true character!. if you were in a burning building and you heard a little child screaming for your help - would you turn and run to save them, or flea to save yourself!? would that really make you the 'fittest' of those to survive, or would that make you the weakest for not even trying!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Soldiers do it everyday!.
Firemen do it everyday!.
Policemen do it everyday!.
They're the "Fittest " of the fit!.
With out them to take care of us we probably wouldn't survive!.
But the ones most people don't think about are their own parents!. Most parents would die to save their children, and thats the reason we've survived through the ages!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know if survival of the fittest would go in this case!. Thats natural selection so the best of the species can survive and reproduce!. Giving up your life to save another would be in a situation of danger!. Save them, not yourself!.

Anyway, yes, I would do it for one person only!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really don't know, it depends on the situation and also many other factors!. Such situation can only be defined in the fact, i mean by that you never know what you would do until you are sstaring at the situation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i agree with Nitemare!. And holly b, what a horrible thing to say!!!! i cant believe that you wouldnt save a life if you yourself would die!!!!! But, depending on a person, i most likely would sacrifice myself if they'd live!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I probably wouldn't!. It's instinct to run away from getting hurt, even if you end up leaving someone who means the world to you!. I wouldn't want to leave them, it would be horrible, but how could you stop yourself!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

lets say you are fedup of the world and you think you cant be on this earth for even 1 micro second, you can do that but to me thats being mean with my life!.And i cant do it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

sometimes we just do things without thinking! i actually saved a guy i hated from a burning house!. because of that i know i would for anyone i care aboutWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'd die for my daughter any day of the week!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes, if its someone i love, my first instinct would be to save them!. I wouldn't give a thought for myself !.!.!. it would not be a concious decision
