As two answers have already correctly noted, epistemology is a branch of philosophy which deals with theories of knowledge!.

You also indicated that you wanted an example of epistemology; so, here you go!. Suppose I ask "Does God exist!?" That is a question about whether something (in this case God) exists!. That's a metaphysical (or ontological) question which asks about what exists in the world!. It's not a question of epistemology!.

Now suppose I ask a slightly different question: "Can I ever really know whether God does, or does not, exist!?" Now I'm asking an epistemological question because I'm trying to figure out whether I can know something (in this case whether God exists)!. That's a question about knowledge; it's a question of epistemology!.

I hope this is helpful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
