The "American Way of Life" uses 25% of the world's oil!. As we stare into the abyss of disappearing oil the American Way of Life is proving that it is clearly totally unsustainable!. Has the American way of life and "The American Dream" based on a seemingly unlimited supply of cheap oil become history's biggest illusion or lie!? Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: First, I don't neccessarily like America, its filled with greed, corruption, and selfishness!. But to answer you, America uses 25% of the world oil because America is basically the world's market, America is the richest country in the world and so its people can afford things like cars and electricty, and air conditioners!. In my country, only 30% of the people have electricty!. Plus China and India are sucking that oil right up just as much as Americans!.Www@QuestionHome@Com If you're focusing on corporate america and our current obessive materialistic and capitalistic attitude, then it's enough to make anybody pessimistic!. However, I do think a lot of Americans live inside a bubble and with the ones that know about it, they want to keep it that way!. The average way of thinking seems to be that well if the world is going to explode because of our pollution, at least it won't happen in my lifetime!. Living in the now!. Nothings going to change until another ice age comes around and wipes billions of people off from the face of the earth!. It's an illusion if anything, because the truth is out there and available if people really want to know about it!. Some just refuse to acknowledge it!. However, just because of the country you live in, that doesn't make your own personal lives, hopes, and dreams a lie!. Look back to the early 20th century when immigrants came into America looking for the American Dream of Rags to Riches!. Oil wasn't the cock of the economic walk back then!.
