Difference in equity and equality?

Question:

This is not exactly a philosophical question but hopefully (if I'm mistaken) someone can explain precisely why I have understood the definitions and their nature incorrectly!.

Firstly equity means to treat individuals fairly and impartially and equality is defined by the state of those individuals being equal!.
More simply equity concerns itself with how it produces outcomes (many varying ones) while as equality concerns itself with producing the outcome itself which of course means pursuing a 50-50 one with no regard to how it's achieved!.

So for example it seems that to advocate equity means you CANNOT advocate equality, even though by advocating equity you may hope that equality would be the outcome produced by fair treatment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have traveled a very long distance by road, a band of thieves took my valuables, I sit at the side of the road for years and watch as you fly over head on a road i can not see!. I'm not sure entirely understand your distinction between the two, but let me take a crack at it and establish that equity and equality are both states of being that compare two or more people!.

Equity may mean that, in relation to the rest of the world, you are either above or below but that everybody who is either above or below you is equal!. Amongst themselves they have equality!. Total equality is reached when you yourself place yourself on their level!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm an accountant, and to me equity has always meant something to the extent of "common stock and retained earnings" owned by a company!.

As for equality, well it's just being treated equally!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Equity is something that you own and can claim!.
