There is a urban legend going around that a philosophy professor at a major university presented this question as the Final Exam for the course!.There was only one student who recieved 100% on the exam!. The mind arbitrarily selects two points in sequential observation, and labels a starting point 'cause' and an end point 'effect'!. The limitation with cause and effect is the failure to explain the cause of the cause!. Cause and effect's limitations are revealed when a child ask "why!?" after every explanation!. The dualistic nature of the mind cannot withstand the enormity of considering the entire combined history of the universe as the source of any cause, therefore cause and effect is the most practical substitute for the intellect!. There are several variations to that story and supposedly it has taken place at many different colleges!.
