"They" build robots as a replacement for humans!.

When they replace human workers with robots, it is generally because robots can do a specific job cheaper / safer / faster / or better than a human--depending on the job!.

Example!. Robots can disarm bombs more safely and cheaply than humans!. If a bomb detonates near the robot, they just pick up the pieces of the robot and send it to the shop for repair and re-assembly!. If a bomb detonates near a human, you have a dead/maimed human!. You have to pay out money to his/her family!. You may have to pay for medical treatment / disability / funeral!. You have to train another human to disarm bombs!. For bomb disposal, robots are cheaper and safer than humans!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First, because they're incredibly useful!. If we didn't have robots then our entire economy would collapse!. We wouldn't be able to build things, cars, electronics, toys, quickly enough!.

And the robots of the future have great emotional appeal!. Imagine intelligent companions for human beings! To be able to create an entirely new form of life is an amazing concept!.

Edit: Of course there are applications for robots as military devices!. The US government is building robot warriors as we speak, mostly remote control planes, but they have programs for developing humanoid soldiers too!.

On the one hand that's a good thing, because we can send emotionless machines to die instead of us, but on the other, I think it's a sad waste of potentially beautiful technology!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like the idea of armies however war should now be fought on XBox, and when were done we go home to live and fight another day in virtual reality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
