The big bang theory states, in very simple terms, that as the universe expands and all matter moves further away from all other matter, it is moving away from the previous state of singularity when all matter was infinitely dense!. According to the law of conservation, all of the matter and energy that we see now has always been here, it was just more centrally located!. SO, thinking of birth as a metaphor for the big bang will vary depending on your metaphysics!. Beings as the big bang theory does not actually account for the existence of the universe as a whole but rather just the state of the matter of the universe as it currently stands, it is moreso a description of dispertion!. If you are a staunch materialist, then the big bang/birth metaphor fits because it lines up nicely with birth and making aging analogous to expansion, illness to collapsing and death to the big crunch!.
