Question: If a tree falls in a forest, and theres no one around to hear it, does it make a sound!?
Well yeah i believe it still makes sound!. does a person have to hear it for it to make sound!?!?
is killing somebody(like a murderer stabbing a victim with a knife behind his back and that victim didn't know there was a murderer after him and also didn't know he was behind him at all), and theres no one there to know or see that it happened, does this mean that person committed a crime!?
EXACTLY! even if no one heard that tree fall, it made sound!.
even if no one saw that person killing somebody, that person still did something bad!

you are correct!. sound is vibrations in the air, therefore even with no living organisms around (or microphones) it would still make a sound!. as for the crime one, yes!. God would see you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Of course it makes a sound!. It is an arrogant human argument that we think we actually affect such things!. Plus, there really is no such thing as an uninhabited place where there are trees, so something out there can hear it!.

sorry, only sound waves are produced, and not sound
sound is something that is defined as an actual entity heard!. In other words, when sound waves hit our ears, our ears translate them into sound!. So no one around, then no sound!. Why do you think a person can be deaf!? And why do you think we, as humans, can not hear every sound possible!? Because the sound waves have not been translated into sound
so if the question was changed to "does it make sound waves!?" Then yes you would be correct!.

even though I agree with the other two answers i gotta play devil's advocate!. So the tree that just fell somewhere in the world you heard it!? you heard it fall!? Really!? the same with the murder its not murder if he doesn't get caught its just something that happend!. did you see the guy get stabbed in the back!? then how does anyone else know it happend!?
We know it happened because soeone finds him but at the exact moment the knife enters the flesh there are only two people who know whats happening the stabber and the stabbee!. Thats it so I ask if a tree falls in the woods does it fact make a sound!?
How do you know that the guy doesn't know that he got stabbed!? thats the question!. That is why this is a philosophical question you have given an example with to many dark pieces!. The act of stabbing someone is just an act its not murder until you are found guilty in a court of law!. remember you are saying he commited murder how do you know maybe he got away maybe there was no evidence!. maybe the guy stabbed himself in the back you give no real explantion just a couple of sentances!.
