I would like to agree with Jason H!. But, I personally believe there is more to it than just reproduction!. I believe EVERYONE has a purpose, whether it be good or evil!. But I think that people don't really know and can't know until they are near their own demise; death!. I think once fate, or god or whoever/whatever sees that you are about to kick the bucket, they give you a sign that tells you your destiny and purpose!. I honestly believe that when people are on their death beds, they find the answers to everything unsolved in their life!. But they can never share it with anybody because in a few moments, they will pass on!.
Call my theories whack!. Call me crazy!. But those are my beliefs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only purpose one has is self-determined!. Pre-determination suggests a higher power or a spiritual 'plan'!. I don't believe that to be the case!. I also don't believe there to be a universal meaning or purpose in life other than the obvious - that we need to procreate to further the species!.

If a person discovers that their purpose is not what they believed, then that person is confused!. Only you decide what your purpose in life is!. You can change it but it doesn't change without you knowing about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"pre-determined or pre-destined, or self-determined!."

FATE, decides what it will but the decision is dependant on you!. In that, Fates decision can change, if "You", no one-real or imagined-else, are prepared to work for it!.

And their, 'perceived purpose can change' IF they can determine, which alternate purpose is preferable and then work for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"The Master said there is one thing in this world which must never be forgotten!. If you were to forget everything else, but were not to forget this, there would be no cause to worry; while if you remembered, performed and attended to everything else, but forgot that one thing, you would in fact have done nothing whatsoever!. It is as if a king had sent you to a country to carry out one special, specific task!. You go to the country and you perform a hundred other tasks, but if you have not performed the task you were sent for, it is as if you have performed nothing at all!. So man has come into the world for a particular task, and that is his purpose!. If he doesn’t perform it, he will have done nothing!."

from “Table Talk” by Sufi Master Rumi

And no, he doesn't specify what one's 'task' is!. That's for each individual to work out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

And it sounds to me as if this "individual" is cutting themself short!.!.not really realising their self-worth,true-potential!.!.heck,i am 38 years old,and still have yet to fully grasp my "purpose",but,i do know this, that one's purpose is not "one",single purpose!.!.Know that we all have inherent giftS within us!.!.the true lesson/s is knowing that we all are here and have many facets, talents, traits, intelligence that marks us as individualsistic and unique!.We are our own destiny!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well its simple!. we do have one self-purpose and thats reproduction!. this purpose is pre-destined and pre-determined!. now each and every one of us means nothing!. if i never mate it wouldnt affect anything!. but without reproduction life ends and so does purpose!. so there ya go!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is in our destiny as self-purpose is depend to individual hidden talent which is in us ever since we are born but depends whether we discover it or not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
