Interesting question!. This gets to the root of whether a person thinks imprisonment is ultimately about punishment or about protecting society!. Assuming that, if released, the killer would not harm any non-human beings (like say torturing cats or pigs or whatnot), releasing him or her would not actually harm anybody!. Since I think the point of imprisonment is ultimately a utilitarian one (protecting society), I see no real objection to the computer releasing him or her!.

Of course this goes against very deeply held beliefs about justice, the nature of punishment, and what people deserve, so I won't be surprised if most of the other answers disagree with mine!. All I can say is that, as we learn more about human psychology, the views about human nature and free will that those deeply held beliefs rest on come to seem more and more implausible or even impossible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My belief is that there are two reasons to put people in prison!.
The first is to protect the people outside from the people inside!.
The second is to protect the people inside from themselves!.

The second reason still is in play so the computer/robot should continue to take care of the inmate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well the purpose of locking this serial killer up is so that he/she/it doesn't kill again!. If there is no one to kill whats the point of keeping him/her/it in the cell!?
P!.S!. why exactly does this serial killer get to live through the apocalypse!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It should let him out!. I believe that one of the reasons for prisons is to create a barrier between them and us!. If there was only one person left, then the the barrier would be death!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I cannot find an answer - what would the purpose be for letting him out or keeping him in!? Either way is toady!.

Guess the computer should just fry him too - get him out of his misery!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He would still be in prison even if he was set free!.!.!.!.There are no others left to care for, or to hurt!.!.!.Lonliness is perhaps the worst prison of all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think he should be let out cause he has no reason to stay in any longer he cant hurt anyone but him selfWww@QuestionHome@Com

He'd kill himself eventually if he were the only person on earth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Let him out because if supposedly we managed to kill ourselves (i!.e!. through nukes), we are more of a murderer than he is, so how is he guilty anymore!? ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com
